It's been 5 months for me. I came out of retirement when she told me . Picked up a full-time day job and a part-time night job. Did that days after she asked me for the divorce. I have read stories here and from friends that went thru hell during the process. I did not she was fair and kept her word. I was blindsided. Maybe I'm stupid, and we had no problems. No money problems, no sex problems, no fighting. No cheating. We did everything together. Had plenty of common interests. And she woke up on Dec 2nd and said I love you, but I'm not in love with you." Fair split, no lawyers, no fighting. I bought her out of our rental property and moved. I still love her, but let's stay in facts. It's over 17 years later. You can lie down or get the fuck up and roll. You had a life before her. Live it I'm 62 now if you didn't have interests, go get some. I still ride dirtbikes, still ride my harley, and still ride mountain bikes. Some of my days suck keep it to moments. It's going to get better. You will overcome this. I marvel at men that jump up and move on to the next one. I'm not that guy. I don't hate women. But my walls are up my fuck off sign is bright. I'm in it for me now. Don't give up sir . Start moving in some direction. Standing still isn't my answer. I am working on the house to make it mine. This world I'm rebuilding is mine. This life is mine. Drive it like you stole it.

Me too man. She's trying to come back and I'm forced to say no. I'm still in love with her and would love to have my family back together but I can't trust her. It sucks ass but we have to move forward.

My therapist told me that I needed to stop focusing on what's going on with her and just focus on taking care of myself

I'm about 9 months in but the divorce isn't final yet.

Good formula I've heard:

It will take one month for each year you've known the person to finally get over them. I.e. you've known each other for 12 years, in 6 more months you'll feel (or be close to) "normal" feeling.

Chin up. It absolutely sucks because time moves slow when we are hurting, but time is the only thing that will make it better

Go get a rubber band and place it on your wrist. Every time you think of her, say "STOP" and snap that rubber band. You'll be back here in a few weeks posting why you ever gave her much of a thought after the break up.

If it makes you feel any better, 6 months out I was still thinking of her most hours. Took a full year before it was only a few times during the day.

Two years out now, and I find myself surprised when I didn’t think of her.

So time helps those wounds scar
