I've posted my story before, but TL:DR, my wife of 16 years blindsided me 3.5 months ago when I found out she was unhappy, cheated on me, and left. I was/am shocked. We just got officially divorced last week. I'm 40 years old; no kids.

I'm still a mess. I miss her so much. I've begged and pleaded for her to try again. I feel pathetic. I'm miserable. I'm already on antidepressants, going to therapy, trying to exercise, find new hobbies (slowly).

I'm functioning, but barely. I don't know what to do; I feel like I'm barely hanging on. I've had some moderate chronic pain for years now and I definitely relied on my now ex-wife for my sense of happiness and joy. Physical activities are tough because of my chronic pain. My self-esteem and self-worth feel non-existent.

I guess I just thought that after 3.5 months I would be doing a little better by now. Sure, in some ways I've improved, but I still barely feel like I'm hanging on. I think about her all the time and am miserable. I really thought she was my soul mate.

Current Fears/Thoughts That I keep Thinking:

  • I'll never be happy again
  • I'll always be alone
  • I'll never find anyone as beautiful and energetic as her
  • I'm unlovable
  • With my chronic pain, I'll never attract anyone again
  • I'll always feel this empty and sad
  • I'm a shell of a former self when I was in my 20s and was able to attract someone like her
  • What if I really am too needy
  • Fear that life has passed me by and I’ve already gone through the “best” years of my life
