I only spent $10k. I think she spent the same or a little more because she had a lot of questions. We did mediation and got it knocked out in one session. Both work. Texas. 50/50. No child support, we just split child monthly expenses. Not contentious.

Jesus. That’s an incredibly high number. Lawyers love this stuff but if it’s cost you this much then I’m assuming the paperwork won’t come easy.

My divorce was $6k and wife’s was $10k. I only spent $6k because I fired my first lawyer.

Divorce mediator and professional here, i often say wat h your attorney like you are wat hing your ex. They can be a cold tough crew to deal with. If you have the agreement set and all you are doing is submitting the application to the court for it to process and set you up with a date with the judge, you are all but done.

With my clients I take the agreement paperwork and submit it for them to keep things simple and I bill an hour or two depending if they want me to drop it off or mail it.

If they are submitting a separate document for custody that sounds sticky and unclear to me.

The $10k sounds like your attorney is expecting more hard work, that or possibly it’s a big money larger firm and those guys have to bill big to cover big costs for the organization.

If the agreement is set, one can take thT to the court house themself, get a date from the clerk, and show up day of court, raise their hand, and be done.

Not sure about the custody doc.

If you have disclosed everything and your lawyers have filed all the forms, you can definitely do it yourself
