I refuse to be a victim of post divorce BS. I wanted to go to Berkekey after HS to study law, but it wasn’t the time, I just wasn’t sure what would interest me, I couldn’t commit. I joined Marine Corps instead 😎🤣and retired at 36 as an E7 for my family (wife primarily 🙄)
Life has a way of circling around, I now know!!! Family Law/Divorce Attorney and stand up to advocate for Fathers/Dad’s (The good ones, there are douche deadbeats like there are mom deadbeats e.g (exempli gratia): like my current stbxw.)

I enjoyed reading the energy and confidence in your posts. But me? I'm slightly less optimistic the system can be changed; it doesn't want to change. Awarding lots of child support, for example, is an entrepreneurial endeavor for the courts (see Title IV-D). I basically gave up the good fight long ago. Arguing with a judge is like arguing with a drill instructor: Even if you're right, you're still wrong.
I've said before: Divorce is a minefield. While it's great that some people can hire a good lawyer (i.e.: a good tourguide through the minefield), I always ask why does it need to be a minefield at all? I was deeply shocked and disappointed by our legal system when I was forced to dash across the minefield.
Honestly, I think lawyers are the problem at least half the time. Your motivations sound pure and righteous. But at the end of the day, the lawyer who has lunch with the judge will win, no matter how noble and ethical your intentions.
Yeah, in my case, I definitely could have used a coach much more than one more asshole lawyer ("your Latin words do not impress me, speak English, fuckstick.")

The 1/3? I was in Fallujah working for the 1/4 in 2008 and 2009. Some elements of the 1/3 were also there, but I never talking to any of them. Found some old photos...

Just to be clear, I wasn't a Marine. I was a civilian Navy contractor, but assigned to an organic intel program run by the 1/4. I lived and worked side-by-side with Marines and reported to a Marine captain. Amazing young men; a life-changing experience. And Fallujah is sacred ground to Marines. Truly amazing experience.
That's the segue into how I ended up here. Contractors in war zones can command huge salaries. I earned north of $300k that year. When I got home, the wife decided to call it quits. But she had a lawyer who PROMISED her she could get permanent support payments of $8400 a month based on my supposed $330k "yearly income".
Hello? War is not a career. Even if I wanted to go back, Obama was already scaling-back the war. And certainly a civilian can't be forced to put himself in harm's way, can he, just to pay alimony?
You'd think that would be a no-brainer. Nope. My wife refused to settle or compromise because her lawyer promised she'd prevail at trial. When I asked her where she thought I could get $8400 a month, she just gave me the Air Force salute (shrugged shoulders) and said she was just following the advice of her lawyer.
Train wreck ensues. Everyone gets hurt, except, of course, the asshole lawyer.
Anyway, yeah, I saw plenty of young married Marines there, vaguely aware that something back home was wrong, but there's nothing they could do about it. The movie Jarhead comes to mind.
