As part of our divorce agreement. We each have to maintain a life insurance policy, and name the other person as the beneficiary. The order also states that each of us may request a current copy, annually. (There are more specifics concerning the policy, but they’re not relevant.)

She changed jobs this past year, so I asked her to provide a copy of her new policy. Months later, she sent me a shady looking document. So I called the “provider” and asked them to confirm if the policy is current. They responded with “… due to privacy, we are not able to confirm anything”.

What would you do?

Edit 1: Ultimately, the insurance policy is to benefit the children. But since they are minors, that can not be named a beneficiary, legally. Hence we have to name each other.

Edit 2: I’d rather not get the attorneys involved if I can help it (he’s expensive!). But I will if needed. So what I’m really after here is: Is there a way to confirm if an life insurance policy is in effect?
