Honestly idk shit, but what I can’t tell you is time does screw you. If your at least somewhat smart and successful, you will build wealth. All that building can come crumbling down in divorce. Just read some posts 50 year old dudes with good retirement funding, losing hundreds of thousands. Others who work over 40, 60 hours a week having to pay spouse and child support with that overtime in mind. Shits awful.

Ultimately the Judge can decide. The year rule is there but it's up to the Judge. Even under 10 years. I'm in California and researched this.

10+ year marriage in CA sucks to deal with in a divorce. The Gavron Warning and Order of Richmond aren't the crowbars you think they are to end spousal support. Everything is left up to the judge, and the judge has wide latitude from the bench. If you're thinking about divorce in CA, do it before the 10 year mark. It will save you a ton of sleepless nights and money. You can't expect your wife to be reasonable in divorce.

Most the time in CA, they don’t dish out spousal support if your spouse can work.

So the issues are multiple. Best to look up the rules for your state. Spousal support is based on need, ability to pay, length of marriage, both parties income, total assets. It really varies state to state! So would talk to a lawyer about your specific situation. I'm in WA state where the length of support is not so bad, but the amount is highly variable.

Currently fighting in Ohio . Married in 2018 she’s trying to include years we were not married. A true human parasite 🦠 because we had a kid before marriage.

I have not been subjected to this yet, but from what I've been advised:

Social Security will likely be split (if it's still there in your later years)
You'll be expected to maintain the same income to support, and will have to fight for reductions if you ever lose a job/get paid less/have any health conditions that force you to stop working
Your retirement assets will be divided

More importantly, you're likely to be expected to support an ex spouse until your death if your marriage was longer than 10 years and you earn. This I have been subjected to, and it's depressing.
