Part of the signing at the end of divorce usually includes "I understand that I am not receiving maintenance and will not receive it at any point in the future." CS is always renegotiable but it usually takes something material and substantial for a court to be willing to change things up, they prefer stability for the sake of the kids, as they should.

Negotiate shit and get it over with now, take what's yours to take. It's an uphill battle and in many ways pretty much impossible to do after the fact.

In short, no. Trying to modify orders after divorce takes multiples of time, attention and money -- assuming you have a qualifying change in circumstances that allows the order to be revisited.

This is a common tactic... She's trying to lock you into a non-modifiable agreement that benefits her (no alimony to you) knowing that you can come back later and get a child support modification. If you agree to this, and using your states CS calculator, you ask for a modification later, she will have saved the alimony amount. If she agrees to an alimony amount, you can come back later and get the same amount of CS, which is worse for her.

Assume that the CS and alimony are separate payments for separate "reasons".... Negotiate each individually, make her pay what she is legally responsible for paying.

She's playing the long game and hoping you won't notice by dangling the finalized agreement within easy reach. Don't fall for it.

Modifying child custody to get 50:50 is going to be near impossible.

Asking for increased maintenance is going to be very difficult.

Asking for more child support is doable if you aren’t getting the calculated amount under the existing custody plan. But if you are banking on being able to get increased custody which then would allow you to ask for more child support - next to impossible.

You need to be prepared to live with whatever is in your divorce decree for the rest of your life. Relying on being able to change it down the line is risky and poor strategy.

I suppose anything would be possible if your stbx is willing to go along with it, but I sure as hell would not bank on this. Best to get right the first time when it comes to divorce.

Property - no. Custody and child support - yes. Ours changed 4-5 times over a decade as the custody situation and incomes changed.

Not sure about alimony.

If you get 50/50 custody, you’re not entitled to child support. Why would you be? You may be entitled to maintenance though. Definitely don’t rely on a future modification.
