Summer break

I leave tomorrow with my 5yo son for almost 2 weeks to go on a road trip from MO to CA/AZ to see family and things like the Grand Canyon, the ocean, etc. We’ve been separated for approximately 3.5 months, divorce still ongoing. But we’ve already agreed on our custody (50/50, 2-2-3) and holiday schedule, including 2 weeks with him each summer. It’s a pretty standard share.

Two week vacations in summer are normal. Even if they stay at home. Use this as an opportunity to focus on more important things.

We actually have it in our agreement that each parent is allowed 2 weeks vacation each summer. It can be consecutive or not. Even years I get to choose dates first, odd years for her. But if you haven't made your choice by a certain date it's first dibs on vacation dates.

My suggestion is to plan your own 2 week vacation. Even it's a staycation.

I don't know your history but two weeks seems like a great amount of time for a summer trip. I know it will hurt knowing they are under the wife's influence and the influence of her family for that long but you have to hold serve here. By your actions make yourself the logical reliable, safe, fun, and trustworthy parent. It will speak more loudly than the opinions of extended family and the bad mouthing of you by your ex wife.

7 and 9 are still young but old enough to know what's what. You just be awesome in the moments you have them and focus entirely on your babies and never mention a word about their mother other than "She's on her way to pick you up" or whatever.

Trust your kids to see thru any bs they are fed while away.

2 weeks during the summer isn’t that bad and often it is that way in most agreement. Mine states each parent gets 2 weeks during the summer. It can be broken up or taken together.

It is a long time but we also have it written that we get 30 mins a night FaceTime calls with the children so that helps out.
