Crazy high. Find a different mediator, but also be prepared to go to court a few times if “reasonable” isn’t in your stbx’s vocabulary.

AZ has and requires freebie mediation for all "divorce with children". So the couple can decide on anything they can, so the judge doesn't have to decide for you. I went in with good intentions.

But instead of that? My exwife and the "impartial" mediator railroaded me. Exwife would get me to agree to something in return for something else, and the mediator would write it down in her computer, and then my exwife would back off of her agreement. This went on and on.

And pepper in statements from the mediator like this;

I was trying to get 50/50 custody. And my exwife protested about it and the mediator said, "only a horrible person would take the children away from the loving arms of their mother."

This went on and on for 4 hours until I was second guessing myself.

And then a twinge of fate happened. The notary went home sick 15 minutes before we were done. And the mediator said, "Take this to a notary, get it signed and submit to the court."

It wasn't signed!! I took it and tossed it in the trash! "See you in court lady!"

And the judge sided with me on everything.

$800 split in half for 3.5 hours to split a marital estate between $300k and $400k and finalize parenting plan.

Mediator filed it with the court and it was rubber stamped a week or two later. Got my equity check 3 months later.

My wheeling and dealing wasn’t perfect but I knew my numbers inside and out and got an acceptable deal. A few years later I look like a genius.

Are you and your STBX reasonable? If yes - you can negotiate at the dining table for free. If not - make sure you have trial date set before going into mediation, otherwise it will be loss of time and money.

In NY paid around $3,000. But different state.

Ask a divorce lawyer's office what their retainer is and double or triple that for comparison.

That sounds about right. Calif lawyers are expensive AF.

Just wait until the fifth session and it's not all done.

Whatever you think you'll pay for lawyers in a divorce, triple it.

Mine was $400 per hour in Cali. Don’t recommend though but it got us through amicably

Not that high to be honest... it depends on the amount of time you are with the mediator... good ones bill at over 500 usd/hr

Idk I spent $5000 in custody mediation that literally did nothing had a full agreement written and crazy stbx backed out a week later
