We've been separated for a year now, but live in the same apartment complex, in the same building (check my post history for more details on the current arrangement). We did Thanksgiving together with the kids at her place. It was the first time we did something together since last Christmas.

After dinner, my son went downstairs to my place and she asked me to stay and talk for a bit. I figured it was going to be something about the kids or some other basic stuff. What it turned out to be was something a little more personal for her. She asked me how I would feel about her current long-distance boyfriend becoming her live-in boyfriend. She knows this guy from gaming online and he lives several states away. He's been here to visit her at least twice that I know of. When she talked to me about him a few months ago, she said that they started out as friends and that they were "taking things slowly". Ok, fine. We're separated, so she can see who she wants. But now, she wants to bring this man that she's only really spent time with online into her home where my daughter sleeps half the time.

I don't like it, but I'm hesitant to rock the boat because our situation has been so amicable up until now. She says she trusts this guy completely and my daughter likes him. As far as my daughter goes, she's never met someone that she didn't like, so that's not a great selling point. She has Down syndrome and is super friendly to everyone that she meets.

She also asked me if I would file for divorce if he moved in. I thought that was strange since separation was her idea and I wasn't on-board with it. I told her I had no intention of filing. Her circus, her monkeys. It's not that I'm hoping for reconciliation or anything, I just don't want to deal with the hassle. The feeling that was left with me was that she's not looking to get divorced right now, just separated. The only real advantage for her is that I can keep her on my medical insurance as long as we're not divorced. I don't mind since my medical insurance is free through my company for my whole family.

I'm still debating the whole move-in thing. I have actually interacted with this guy multiple times online. He seems nice enough and didn't have any glaring red flags, but living together is a whole different animal. Do I risk blowing up my current situation which works great for my kids and draw a line in the sand here? At the end of the day, he would still probably be moving in and I could end up going from amicable to openly hostile. I'm a bit at a loss here.
