Keep that shit to yourself. If you need time off for court, take your paid leave. If you lose your job because of your divorce - well, get it in writing and that wouldn't be the worst thing to happen in the context of your divorce.

I made a decision to NOT involve my work in my personal divorce tragedy.

I never missed any major meetings or deliverables and my bosses to this day probably don't realize I had a Divorce.

In my opinion letting your work know you are getting a divorce is a double edged sword. Usually most bosses are initially sympathetic but after a month or two will expect similar performance to before... you know the TIME divorces really crunch you mentally.

I worked for a tech company once who had a couple of older engineers who got divorced. One told his bosses his situation AND... they noticed a slight drop off in productivity immediately put him on a PIP. The other had his divorce and said nothing. I know he had issues in his divorce but he took personal days as he needed drained his vacation time and made it work. I would say he had a productivity drop off but because of personal days and vacation he was able to make it through the year WITHOUT any HR stuff happening.

The other engineer on PIP had a meltdown and was exited from the company.

Mean? Yep. But some companies have a ZERO tolerance policy on family/marriage issues impacting work. Your boss may be sympathetic but if HR has rules about how this is handled... the boss will follow them and exit your butt if he has to.

So yeah don't disclose is my advice. If you have STOP talking about it. Take vacation and time off as you need to with NO COMMENTARY. NONE

If you need support you go to your mom or therapy. Your boss,coworkers aren't there to help you through your feels. They pay YOU to do a job, and your coworkers job description I'm sure isn't to play your personal therapist. Learn to separate the two.
