Long story short, getting divorced. We share Credit Card debt, 3 children, and a house we are waiting to sell. I live in the house with the kid,ms, she moved out and has strong financial support from her parents. Everything seems amicable at this time, and my STBXW sat down and discussed different aspects going forward.

Financial Responsibilities:

  1. Kids covered by wifes school insurance due to cost of coverage.

  2. Dad pays for medication costs for monthly prescriptions.

  3. Copays for whoever take to appt, unless it is extravagant then cost will be split 50/50

  4. Food costs are individualized for whoever they are with at that time.

  5. Lunch costs at school need to be monitored if they buy lunch during week of.

  6. After school activities to be split 50/50 upon discussion/agreement.

  7. Birthday party costs to be split 50/50.

  8. 4 credit cards to be split 2/2. Equal amounts split evenly. She is already removed from my cards and I’m pretty sure she removed me from hers

  9. House sale- goal for April 2026 sale. Proceeds to be split 50/50 after paying off surgery costs for dog. If house is not sold by April, mortgage will continue to be split 50/50 until house is sold.

Co-Parenting Rules

  1. Schedule to be 1 week on, 1 week off with each parent. Exceptions include basketball season when father will take primary caregiver role to avoid multiple housing switches. Summertime when wife will be responsible for daytime coverage while husband works, and kids will spend the evenings/nights with him during his weeks.

  2. School vacation weeks- mother will have primary custody unless father is able to take work off.

  3. Holidays- To be decided for future changes. Current plan to have kids maintain standard living schedule.

  4. Birthdays- Together per kid request

  5. Afterschool activities participation/attendance is encouraged but not mandatory for both parents to attend.

  6. Open communication about school/feedback/behavioral concerns. Include both parents on all emails.

Relationship Rules

  1. Open communication when it comes to lifestyle changes- job issues/transitions, housing changes. To prepare for impact on kids.

  2. Kids will not be introduced to any potential future partners until said partner has met coparent and consent given.

  3. In the event one is unable to take care of the dog, it will go to the other person. Reasonable housing choices must be met and maintained.

If you read all of that, Thanks! I’m wondering what are we overlooking/what did we miss. Financially we make basically the same per month and almost always have. If anything she made more money per year than I did typically. Gotta love healthcare right?

Anyways, what am I missing/overlooking that we need to talk about? Hoping to do mediation and not have to lawyer up.
