Lawyer don’t care about your family, only your money. Tell the lawyer you can’t make the next payment and see what response d you get. That’s your son and he didn’t ask for none of this drama.

get a new therapist immediately. at age 16 they should not be meeting the parents at all. and if they do have a reason to, it should be done with both of you present.

then take an extra minute to refer him for disciplinary action with your states licensing board. they take that shit VERY seriously. it won’t get his license taken away, but it will become public record and maybe you’ll save the next person who takes the time to google their therapist before starting the most important relationship in their life with this person.

And since it’s your son, he should be with a male therapist so whoever else you find next should be as well. your son will need a healthy unbiased male role model because your credibility - even before that comment - was already burnt by default just because of the divorce. For awhile.

He loves you both and probably wanted you to know because unless he feels it's true he wants you to be able to defend yourself. Unless he literally said "please don't tell mom" I'd add it. That's stupid and dangerous from her side. She's putting the kid in a really tough situation and that's completely badmouthing/alienating the other parent which is a huge fucking no-no.

Don't ever say anything to anyone that you aren't willing to get out in the open, because people talk and some people won't put up with bullshit or just aren't able to keep a secret

Rebuttal for what? Your son is old enough to vote with his feet. By the time the divorce is over, he'll be an adult or close enough to it not to matter for custody.

Im not sure where you live or what the laws are, but I figured by 16 he could voice his own opinion where he wants to go for custody etc. There were hints of this going around when I was getting divorced but thankfully the ex didnt follow through with the lies. She had been telling the person she was cheating on me with that I wasnt “safe” in order to emotionally manipulate him and get sympathy for being a cheater. Thankfully my daughter (10 at the time) had no part of that and the story fell away. Hoping the same for you.
