Things have been really tough for me lately and I feel like I am in a hole. I don't want to feel the way I do about women but its everywhere I look. Sorry if this isn't the right place for this type of post, but I'm looking for help anywhere I can find it.
This all kinda started years ago when my brother was feeling frustrated with women. I was about 22 at the time (26 now). He said that women were incredibly selfish in relationships, would never make the first move, and had extreme expectations. I tried to talk him down from these things and explain that a few bad experiences aren't representative of the whole. We took a trip to visit some family and our mother thought it would be a good idea to bring this up with our cousin who was in our age range and she would set him straight at what women really want in a relationship, because she has been in several longish relationships with some nice guys.
Lets just say this completely backfired, my cousin came across as extremely selfish. She said that it is completely on the guy to make the first move, pay for ALL dates and outings throughout the relationship, buy gifts often, be there for the woman always, NEVER show weakness, and all of this is just for the privilege of being with her. This kinda hit hard, because this was supposed to be our "control group". We grew up with her, and we were similar age and we were close. It kinda rocked my world and left me confused, and guilty that I let down my brother.
Another story. I had close female friend, but we started to have a rough patch when she, a bi woman, said that she needed to break up with her boyfriend because he might be bi too. When I asked her why, she said the idea of a man being with another man made her lose all attraction to him. When I mentioned that since shes bi herself, that's seems a little hypocritical, she said she didn't really care if it was hypocritical. She also stated that any men who cry are disgusting and she could never be attracted to someone like that. She was also someone to often advocate for mental health....She ghosted me after getting into a different long term relationship.
This rough patch had me looking back at all my experiences with women. I lost my virginity in college after drinking far too much and a girl took me back to her room. While I was in a drunken stupor, she basically vetted me. Asking my political affiliations and what I wanted in a relationship and then we did the dirty. Anyways, being a drunk virgin on antidepressants I never finished and she was really not happy about that and told me that I must think she was ugly and the night became a whole fiasco. In the coming days she would berate me always for not acting like a guy should. She started fights at me not texting her first thing in the morning, not picking up on certain clues she was dropping, and basically for not reading her mind. Keep in mind I only knew this girl for a few days.
That whole situation ended at a tailgate when she got mad at me for picking up something another women dropped and returning it to her. I told her then and there I didn't feel a connection, she started pushing and hitting me and I left. She berated me for a while by text message before I blocked her.
I know its often said that tinder and online dating are not representative of the real world, but unfortunately the reality seems to be that this is the only acceptable way to approach women. On here I have LITERALLY been called a beta male by women, and had women cancel date plans moments before I depart when they asked my height (5 10). And this is only when you get matches. You have to swipe through hundreds of women to get anywhere, because of the nature of modern dating. You have to dance like a monkey to get a girls attention, instead of just treating them like a normal fucking human being and saying hi. Most recently, I had a date actually happen, and the girl asked me out even! But the result was the girl arriving half an hour late, told some awful stories about her dogs killing cats, and then footed me with the bill. After I never messaged her again asking for a second date she blocked me.
Bad date and tardiness aside, I was kinda bothered by being expected to pay when the date was something she initiated. I felt pretty used. I opened up to some people about this, and everyone women I talked to were kinda annoyed that it even bothered me. "well the men pay, sooo..." type of deal. Guess gender roles are OK when it benefits women...
Nowadays, where I work I am the only man. Most of the women are older, but several are my age. They love to get in their snide remarks about men and give me little pointers on how relationships *should* be. Here's how it works according to them (and this isnt one lady, this is all of them agreeing, across age ranges:
- Her money is her money and his money is her money
- It doesn't matter if she can do it herself, you do it for her
- If there is a disagreement, she is right. You would know better to argue otherwise
- He must put up with everything, his reward his getting to be with her
and so on. You get the picture.
And so here and I today, feeling lied to. I always went about treating women equally, but have been since told that that is incorrect, by numerous women. Rise of certain communities on reddit such as /r/femaledatingstrategy didnt help. My roommate/best friend's in a serious relationship with a beautiful girl who seems sweet, but honestly everything they do is something he pays for or hosts. So yeah. I have never been part of any redpill communities, but when I hear about a lot of the stuff they say, its like yeah, women have told me that. And I don't want a world where women are like this. I just want an equal relationship with a nice girl and not to feel like some kind of slave. And then I hear women say things like "the bar is literally on the floor" in regards to whats expected of men and its insanely frustrating. With what I have been told, there is no sensible reason to be in a relationship with a woman. She'll expect the world from you, just for the privilege of being with her and you'll get nothing in return. According to most of the women in my life, men are just a resource. Their feeling don't matter. All that matters is what they provide.
And do you know they advice that's often given to men like me? Be ok with being alone. That's basically conceding that yes, this is how the world works, no its not going to get any better and that that's ok. Well, its not ok, and I'm not ok and it doesnt have to be like this, but women wouldn't have it any other way.
