So I had a push and pull relationship with a guy who literally was the worst to me until last year. It had spanned over the years, never a relationship, but not partners or no hooking up either. It was just a lot of emotional investment.

I generally have high standards but made an exception for him. I was so bad that I still wanted to work it out with him despite the fact that he never treated me well, was never open/communicative, never told any of our friends( we have a huge common social network),, couldn't perform in bed with me and finally cheated on me.

He broke up with me. I didn't bother blocking him or doing anything. I was stunned but I moved on vowing to never ever let this happen ever again with anyone. Have majorly levelled up since then.

Cut to now.

Guy calls and says that he had depression and I was at the worst receiving end of it. He wanted to know what I went through when he was a jackass. I just thought he wanted some sort gratification of how he affected me and I told him I moved on and it's in the past so we could let it be. He said it was a something that bugged him and it was a part of this therapy to apologise and understand what he had done to other humans and he had communicated this with all his friends who he had treated badly and was going through the same thing. He said he still had feelings for me as he had back in November and he wanted me to help him.

I basically told him that it actually had a positive effect on me because after him :

  1. I knew what I definitely didn't want in a man.

  2. I knew that this is something that I would never allow in my life ever again.

  3. I said," You remember the standards I had that you didn't match, well they've only gotten higher." ( And yes they have so much!!!!)

  4. I wished him the speediest of recoveries with respect to his depression and said that I hoped he had a good circle for him but politely made it clear that I wasn't going to be a part of the circus.

In the end when he asked if we could be friends because he missed me for one, I was very clear in saying no but I said we could be cordial mainly because we have a wide friends circle and we are bound to run into each other quite often.

The best part: all the anguish I felt for this guy is no more. I'm indifferent to him. I don't hate him. I'm not angry at him. He doesn't matter anymore and I'm proud of myself for that! I do hope that he gets better but it's good wishes for any randomn person who is not doing so well in life and nothing more.
