I have had three boyfriends, and ALL of them came from regular homes. Parents were married/in love, etc. They were all equally losers with weird attachment issues. I actually found that they had narcissist traits. So all men from everywhere are trash

Oh interesting, I read this differently. I read it as if s/he’s using the divorce issues from when he was 5 to excuse things he’s doing at a much, much older age.

That being said, every guy I’ve dated came from a broken home - father left mom when he was young, or parents still married but not talking, etc. I’d be interested in dating a man who comes from a divorced but happy family or happy 2 parent household. I come from a divorced but happy family, so it exists. My parents are friendly with each other, but the marriage didn’t work out.

I think it's much more important to observe how a person deals with their past, how much work is done to recognize toxic patterns and improve mental health than it is whether or not there is a toxic or tragic past

Men love to use their childhood heartbreaks as a reason for their abuse of their female partner. His parents are divorced? So what? 50% of people’s parents are divorced- half of those people being women and they don’t abuse their male partners 🤷🏻‍♀️

It's more important to me now to find out about a guys parents than ever. My ex told me at first his parents were just divorced. He neglected- our entire 4 years together- to mention his mother was suicidal, institutionalized and left her children for years to live with another man. He also forgot to mention she was still suicidal depressed AND an alcoholic when she came to live with us :) quiz 'em hard ladies.

I dated a man like this for 3 weeks and I dumped him. He refused to deal with his trauma and expected me to be his therapist. Mind you we had free counselling services in uni.

Posts like this perpetuate the shame that keeps women in shitty relationships with shitty men "for the kids." Divorce does not break children and an adult who blames their parents divorce when they were 5 for their issues needs to take a long hard look at themself.
