I'm young and quite attractive (I dress quite modestly but also fashionably, as I used to work for an expensive boutique, and have been told by quite a few people I should model as I'm also slim). However, I am also good at making myself look less attractive by putting my hair in a ponytail, wearing my oversized clothing (in fashion right now though!), etc. I will do this on days I'm walking through a rougher area (I live in a big city, my area itself is safe but the surrounding ones are often dodgy).

I actually get treated better in general on days I am noticeably less attractive. I've noticed that, even when out and about in public minding my own business, I often get a LOT of negativity and hostility from low value couples when I am more "dolled up" and looking pretty, wearing even normal fitting clothing, etc. (I'm talking a fitted designer coat as opposed to a crop top, although of course there is nothing wrong with women wearing revealing clothing).

Today, I was wearing a cute but modest outfit (designer coat and scarf, red skinny jeans and brogues, quite a preppy and very modest outfit). A guy even asked me for my number when out shopping with a face mask, though he was very polite when turned down. I was walking past an older middle aged couple (interestingly, a WOC and a white male - I myself am a WOC) when they started completely randomly making horrible comments at me as I walked ahead: "Spot the student!" and laughing nastily. I turned around, rolled my eyes at the woman and she snapped: "She looks completely mental." I said, very loudly and multiple times, "Absolute trash," and the woman glared at me but didn't say a word back. Her partner also stared but clearly didn't have the balls to say anything TO rather than about me. Funnily enough, as they were walking away and past me, he kept staring back at me out of the corner of his eye.

As bad as it sounds, both of them had quite unattractive faces and were slightly trashily dressed, you could tell neither was a "catch" even not considering appearance, and the insecurity was palpable. (We were walking through a train station and they kept stopping and talking to every other member of staff like they "needed to be heard"). LVM hating on pretty women for no reason is nothing new, nor is their pick-me partners choosing to take it out on the woman instead of their worthless trash man.

I suspect racial dynamics as well as were also at play here. I've dated white guys as well as fellow POC before and would certainly never go around eyeballing random other WOC because I thought my guy would chase them instead of me, but lots of WOC sadly can tell their partners partly have a thing for them because of their race and are insecure around/take it out on other WOC as a result.

Any of you other Queens noticed this? And happy NY! :)
