As the title says, be careful if you are planning to use Telegram and here is why.

When you register with your phone number for the first time, the app sends a message to the ones who have you number registered on their contacts. Not only the ones you have... but also to the ones who have your number on their contact list without you having their number on yours.

So, if your ex or someone you no longer want to talk to has your number and receive a notification that you joined Telegram. There are chances that he will contact you. Unless, you have their number and block him directly on the app at the moment you join the app.

Before joining Telegram, I didn't know the app did this. Wish I could have known that sooner.

This happened to me last month. A disgusting narcissist scrote who caused me a lot of trauma in the past, contacted me again after two years of no contact saying that he saw I was on the app and he wanted to say hi and check how I was doing. Of course, I block the shit out of him because he triggered my anxiety back.
