Women aren't even safe in broad freaking daylight from this shit. I think of all the times I've gone for a casual walk in the park, just enjoying my day, as she must have been.

I know some scrotastic responses to this will be along the lines of, "Women should know better than to go outside and have a stroll in the park unless they're chaperoned by men." We have the right to go outside like human beings and live our lives.

I just really wanted something here for Sabina. I’m not a woc but I’m so aware of how different the media attention is when the dead woman is white compared to any other ethnicity. Sabina was killed in a public park in daylight, possibly by a stranger. A 40 year old man has been arrested and released. Sabina is yet another wonderful, kind, beautiful woman who has had her life snatched away just by being in a park at the same time as a depraved man. Forgotten and ignored because of the colour of her skin. Please stay safe sisters. And say her name. Sabina. ❤️

I'm sad and angry for her. Of course, the asymmetry in law enforcement response and media attention for white women vs. women of color is a problem, and I don't fully understand the mechanisms behind it. I'm also sad and angry for Destini Smothers, who was also murdered by her partner, and whose name I learned from a Facebook post in response to the Petito case.

All these women deserve the same attention and the same resources as Gabby Petito. How can we make sure they get them? How to drive change? I feel for all those women who deal with institutionalized racism on top of misogyny. What an uphill battle.

While there are important differences based on culture, socio-economic background, and race, all of us are in danger of violence at the hands of the men who hate us. Let's not lose sight of the fact that the fundamental problem is misogyny which affects all of us. As we are aware of the additional challenges faced by black women, indigenous women, poor women, it's important that we don't lose ourselves in internal conflict over the injustices. Individual women are not responsible for the unequal treatment of women, but rather societal structures that we as individuals have no control over, i.e. the patriarchy. Let's always remember that.

Rest in peace Sabina, Gabby, Destini, and all women murdered by men whose names we'll never learn.
