Christina Aguilera wore that shirt in 2002 and everyone was like "PAH! THAT SLUT is gonna talk about women's rights and equality ? She needs to cover up first. Also viCtiM mEntAlitY, muCh"
I'm all for men speaking up for women. It speaks volumes how women literally say the same for years and get ignored.

Let me add a further context into this this is a picture from the aurat march or women's march in Pakistan, a march that is given a lot of backlash and threats so it's a big deal for us Pakistanis when male allies come out in support. Especially since the other people of his generation are largely misogynistic and patriarchal.

Thank you! I think it's important to know that the actions of these brave men can have real consequences in the current environment. Women there desperately need support of men. This is not the "bare minimum", this is more serious.

That look on his face says it all! π€£ Like, "A grown ass man like me has to wave a sign on the streets just for you man children to get the point?"

Scrotes be like "But members of FDS hate and discriminate against men!!!!". No we don't. We don't shitpost about hating someone just because he's male and degrading men during sex.

Shoutout to this king!
Edit: RussianCat26 is right, this should be considered the bare minimum. I was blindsided by the fact that this behaviour is so uncommon in men. Thank you for pointing this out to me.
[β]RussianCat26FDS Newbie 32 points33 points34 points 5 years ago* (10 children) | Copy Link
I respectfully point out that this man is simply doing the work that we women have done for thousands of years. Standing up for women is not kingly, though it is so rare that the behavior is placed on a pedestal.
EDIT: I did not realize the standard for a KING was bare minimum effort in supporting women. The message he presents is a strong one, but lets not fall over each other defending a common man.

I agree with you, generally speaking.
But this man is middle-aged/old and seems to be in an arabic speaking country according to the writing behind him (I would guess Pakistan but not sure). So he has most likely been born and raised to believe that women were inferior to him. The fact that he takes some of his time to go out and spread a message that doesn't affect him at all, in a country where women have even less freedom, makes him a king in my eyes.
He is not your average "I'm a male feminist", he is actually doing something and his sign is on point.
[β]nnanna11FDS Newbie 36 points37 points38 points 5 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
that man is either south asian or arab. theyβve been raised to think women are inferior. itβs a big step for south asian/arab men
[β]RussianCat26FDS Newbie 7 points8 points9 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Almost all men have been raised to think women are inferior, to not even question it. Ladies, this is FDS. We can support men doing proper work for women, WITHOUT placing him on a king pedestal. I don't give a f.ck if it's a big step, considering all women are raised in the same patriarchy and we all have to take steps to support each other. Nah that's not me, queens.
[β]nnanna11FDS Newbie 18 points19 points20 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
but that doesnβt erase the fact that women in the middle east and south asia donβt have the same rights we do in the west.

I understand that!! I have not said or claimed otherwise, my dear π My birth mother was not provided birth control or proper pre natal care. She was exposed to and luckily treated for STIs years prior to my birth. I was born with quite a few health problems. My birth mother gave me away at 1 day old. She was listed as a single parent. She lived poorly. I come from a very poor and possibly gang affiliated industrial town in Russia, so YES I do understand the lack of rights women face elsewhere. What does that have to do with this one man? If he was a king, he'd be personally involved in government as an official or activist and use his status as a male with power to protect women. This is a protest sign. I just don't see the comparison.
Edit. Why the fuck am I defending my own mother's struggle to y'all just for y'all to downvote me? I am, not by choice, one of the most privileged and protected group of women, young attractive and white and thus go out of my way to NEVER dismiss the ab.use and mistreatment of BIPOC. My privilege grants me the obligation and duty to protect fellow women, and the unique experience of not truly understanding their struggle. But to be accused of ignoring how women are treated in the middle east and south Asia? That's not me. Wow. Disappointed.

i get that, but iβm glad more older men are realizing this
[β]RussianCat26FDS Newbie -1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yes, and unfortunately it really moves away from the point of my original comment. I was not dismissing any work that this man has done. I appreciate his activism. Simply pointing out that this mans one action DOES NOT qualify him as a king has gotten quite a few other women to jump to his defense.

Is this the original writing on the sign? I ask because it looks like the sign in the background is in Arabic, so iβm wondering why this one would be in English.
[β]futuristicallyangryFDS Newbie 6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
This is a picture from the aurat march or women's march in Pakistan, the writing on the background sign is in Urdu, the native language of Pakistan. Some signs there are in English and some are in the local languages.
[β]JaelismyhomegirlFDS Newbie 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Oh, okay. Good to know (i guess iβm not familiar enough with South Asian languages to tell the difference between Urdu and Arabic. Even though they are in completely different language families). Iβm so used to people photoshopping pictures of signs, that my first instinct is to doubt.
