Hello ladies,

I grew up reading, sportsing and gaming. I always wanted to feel "masculine" and want guys to like me/ think I was "Not Like All the Other Girls"™

Luckily I've grown up and moved on. I have hobbies such as art, sports, still love me some reading, have some shows I follow, love language learning, and travel. I've earned a degree and have been working my way up the ladder slowly and steadily. I'm getting my finances under control, I have a HV partner.

However, I still occasionally game. Not frequently, maybe a few hours over the course of a few weeks. My weekdays are filled with work, activities and sports and my weekends sometimes have a few extra hours where I feel like gaming a bit.

  1. My first question is, is this acceptable? I am 100% aware that many people have a gaming addiction/ let their lives slide to the wayside for it/ neglect their partner, but I have found balance in occasionally introducing it as a form of entertainment in my life. I'll play 1 player specific games (never online, ew), usually fantasy or superhero ones (I love Marvel). Sometimes I'll play it in my target language as a way to learn new words/ reinforce fluidity (I've lived in the target country and studied the language so I am actually benefitting from it).

  2. My second question: I used to be one of the people that shat over the idea of "videogames make people violent." Now I've seen the adult ass men playing online shooters for hours every day, screaming into the wee hours of the morning for misses, calling each other names and making rape jokes and shit. I don't feel violent when I game, and any other woman who I know that games does not throw tantrums, even online on these platforms. Do you think video games do in fact cause increase in violence and if so, is it purely because of toxic masculinity, do you think? I ask because guys watch violent TV shows and movies and seem to be fine... Maybe the difference is because they're gaming way more and they're immersed in/encouraged to participate in the anger?

  3. For the moms out there: do you/would you let your kids game? Did you game yourself growing up? (Even like gameboy for example.) If so, what is your methodology for making sure your kid doesn't turn into a NVM/LVM with gaming addiction?

Thanks for reading, I appreciate any insight. I want honesty regarding my own situation but please nice to me, I'm paper-skinned today :)
