It’s not a red flag to have a public one necessarily. I had a public one just because I never bothered to set it private. But if they’re lying on it, trying to present a “influencer” image, hash tagging everything, and generally spending a lot of time posting to it and their stories than you will always take a back seat to the lifestyle they’re trying to pretend they live.

not necessarily. i hate social media, so my page is empty and i use it exclusively to message old schoolmates, follow my friends' work and such. so a public profile usually is an orange flag for me, personally.

however, i've been talking to some men and one has his profile public, because he mainly uses it for his music. another because he shows off his projects and such. i think these cases are fine. if i had hobbies with outcomes you can show off, i would too, i suppose.

however, a public profile with only selfies etc would make me wary.

Mine is public because I’m a member of a performing arts collective and all our marketing is done through social media. Otherwise I’d keep it private.

well my ex had a private one that he used to kick me out of his account so he could follow a bunch of models and porn accounts i couldn’t see 🤷‍♀️

Social media use is a turn off for me (she commented on Reddit). I understand some people use Facebook to keep in touch with friends and family internationally, I do but messenger only. When I see a guy with IG or Snapchat, I make it clear in the early stages that I believe most social media is toxic and is best used in small doses and some apps avoided entirely. A lot of them see the point or already agree with this because most of them have an actual life and little time to be online.

If you don’t like something, don’t compromise, they’re your boundaries. The right person will respect them. If not, move on.

Honestly, I don't get the bad rap for Instagram on FDS. Is it an American thing? In my country, IG is mostly used for what is meant to be used - as a site to practice you amateur (and sometimes even professional) photography enthusiasm. I post pictures to remember nice moments for myself, or of my friends; I like the validation through likes and comments of my friends and acquaintances that I can keep in touch with via this social platform. I follow not only my friends, but also very useful psychotherapy and advice channels, humor and memes channels, favorite musicians, channels that improve my knowledge and broaden my horizon. Other people I know use it for the same purposes. Apparently some men use IG to follow softpornish content, like IG models, but personally I didn't even know about this IG subgenre before FDS. I don't see the reason why an IG should be necessarily set to private unless you are a very private person.
