Nerves. Guilt. Negging (manipulation), to make you chase their approval and attention. Trying to make you feel unimportant. You’re saying something that’s not to their liking so they withdraw (withhold) and don’t engage fully in order to show tacit disapproval and condition you to not do again what you’re doing/Not bring it up again. Don’t respect you. Thinking you’re stupid or beneath them. You’re being annoying and can’t take a hint that the conv is over? If these men are from work, consider they may be busy and trying to disengage so they can get back to work. think these are the big ones.

I have ADHD and eye contact can be very hard for people with it. It can also be difficult for people on the autism spectrum.

Either way, I don't like this behaviour, it's quite unattractive and the reason they do it doesn't matter. I prefer men to look me in the eyes when I'm talking with them.
