Oddly enough I had a male friend where we actually did just watch Netflix and chill. We worked at the same large company in different departments and had become company gym buddies and had both been to each other’s homes in group settings before hanging out alone. I was always sort of expecting for him to make a sleazy move... but nope.

He remembered which teas and chocolates I liked and had them around. I never did figure out whether he was interested in me, or just actually nice. Before I started a new job, he took me to a mezcal bar because we both love trying new kinds but then called me a cab home without me even having to ask. On my last day of work, I found a secret gift on my desk with no card attached but the same chocolate he knew I liked. 10/10, very respectful and cozy, I felt so comfortable when we hung out.

It was such a different vibe that I could not go back to the sleazy Netflix and chill “dates” anymore. His friendship set a new standard for my former pick-me self that a cozy movie night in was actually enjoyable and did not need to be so sexual; just that so many dudes ruin it.

At the same time that was happening I had a guy invite me over to put together IKEA furniture 🤢

I think the cooking date has been around longer than Netflix & chill. Just depends on your demographic.

Any kind of date that involves going to the guy's place or having him at yours is basically the same. He will be hoping for/expecting sex, and you need to stay alert if that's not what you want.

Any guy on dating sites who tells me he "Prefers a cosy night in", I read that as a euphemism for "I won't take you on dates, I'll plough you badly on the couch."

"Grab a coffee" is a weird one too - women have to make a LOT of effort to look good on a first date, I'm not spending two hours getting myself together to spend twenty minutes in a coffee shop where we can't hear each other over the noise. It's low-effort. It's like "I want to give the impression that we're dating so I can keep you around for sex, but without actually taking you on a date."

"Going for a drive" as well. I don't know what these driving dates are because I've never accepted one. I hate to be pessimistic, but I would say just don't get in a car with a man before he is your actual boyfriend.

Just dont go to private place with a guy. Its easy. If i meet a guy, im only meeting him in public places that requires effort to meet me. If it doesnt require effort, i dont bother seeing him.
