Also, adding in coming back for validation that he can “still get it.” My demented ex won’t grow and change his sub par behavior but somehow year after year he thinks checking in on me will magically open the gates for him. Like no. Go away and never come back.

I had an ex try at the beginning of year, completely forgetting everything he put me through or maybe he thought I would forgive and forget. He never committed to making me his girlfriend and kept dropping me to go back to another ex (among other things I ended up in therapy for).

I told him if he really wanted a relationship with me the first time around we would already be in one or at least had been in one. His mind was blown because he never replied.

If you had a chance with me (and as an ex, you certainly did) and blew it… then you’re done. I had a nervous breakdown after my last breakup. What was my ex doing during that time? Well, he clearly had been lining up my replacement behind my back (we were long distance when we broke up) and was transferring his affections to her. That was a few years ago and by all accounts, he is stuck in that relationship, emotionally detached and thinking of leaving this woman he has set up as a forever girlfriend who pays half the rent.

Meanwhile I’m working on myself, getting back into the gym, spending time with great friends and loved ones and working through my history of trauma in therapy. We are not the same. I haven’t ‘settled’ with anyone, pay my own bills and am financially independent. This man can kiss my dust, it’s all he’ll get from me ever again

My ex comes back from time to time. When I was a suffering pickme I found it vindicating. But with FDS lens I learned what it is and I learned how to be properly annoyed and disinterested with it.

This is what it is: It's when he's fighting with his wife, (or they're going through a dry spell, or he's on the road and disconnected with her, or whatever...they're not getting along for whatever reason). That's when he appears.

What I learned is that he does it because he romanticizes the past, and romanticizes his relationship with me. I know this because I've unpacked his delusional confessions and made enough connections about the timing to read between the lines.

My existence means nothing to him when he's content. Months can go by without a weird vibe (we work together) or inappropriate glance, but as soon as his wife is going through something hard he gives me dramatic looks and makes revolting comments. Instead of working on his (normal) relationship issues, he just shuts down on her and insists that I'm the true lost love of his life. He acts as though if I were in his wife's shoes things would resolve themselves and we'd ride off into the sunset together. In reality we were horribly incompatible and miscommunicated constantly. I'd have divorced him a thousand times over if I were in her shoes.

I've pointed all this out to him before and he eventually admitted that it was true. Made me paranoid about all men for a while afterwards (I found out that lots of women report similar experiences and I was convinced that ALL men do this), but with time I've learned that it's just the childish ones. An ego cope or something. Idk. But it gives me the ick more than any other LV behavior I've ever had to deal with.
