The Superbowl and sports culture in general is baffling and full of contradictions. Men claim to not have an eye for design but lose their minds when their team changes their uniforms. They don't remember wedding anniversaries or their kid's middle names but remember everything about their team's history and player stats. They shit on their wife's hobbies, especially things like astrology and crystals, but insist on painting their faces and wearing a jersey with another man's name on it for good luck. They're watching several dozen men in tight clothes beat each other up and cause permanent brain damage but say no homo. We're on to you assholes and know that if you wanted to you would, and you do for your bros so just go date them.

ETA ladies and lurkers DO NOT cater your forever boyfriend's or husband's watch party. Find out what their plans are and if it's not a lovely dinner/activity centered around you/spa day/whatever your preferences are, get together with your girlfriends and plan an entire day for yourselves. You deserve it and he'll either figure it out or he won't but this is a great day to vet.

Serious question: I’m not arguing but I’m a huge football fan (not to be a “cool girl,” always have been, single or married or in a relationship) so what should my expectations be? I’m single right now, not even currently casually dating, but personally I’d really enjoy watching the Super Bowl with a boyfriend for Valentine’s Day if that’s how it happened to fall. I don’t really want to skip the Super Bowl for a fancy dinner, spa trip, etc. I’d be happy with all that a day early or late but I think you can still have a boyfriend and watch the Super Bowl together - even if it’s at a Super Bowl party with our friends - without being a pickmeisha. Thoughts?

Again - this is only a question for women who legit love football. If that’s not you, then you do you! 💯

I respectfully disagree. I have my v-day celebrations planned for the Saturday, as I don’t like to drink or stay up too late before a work day (if we’re celebrating on the Sunday instead). I’ll let him do the super bowl thing, but he knows to shower me with attention and positive affirmations the entire week.

I do think they’ll be a plethora of men who ditch their partners if they celebrate on the Monday though, on accounts of being “too drunk” on Sunday.

I don't think there's an issue in celebrating on Saturday & I don't think there's an issue in them wanting to watch the Super Bowl.

I always forget about the Super Bowl and Valentine's Day. Thanks for the reminder. I'll be exploring the outdoors by myself.
