It's seriously not that hard. My partner is very much a serious man who doesn't really express himself very much and is a lot different. He's much more affectionate and loving BUT silent/of few words whereas I communicate my sensitivity/feelings openly without as many problems and am a very not private person and am a chatty Kathy, essentially.
So this leads to a lot of times me just sending him huge paragraphs about my feelings and stress- from University, to my mom's health scares, to me being worried for my best friend, to feeling like a disappointment for falling behind on classes especially when he paid my tuition this year since I couldn't afford it etc. etc. etc. Last Thursday, for example, was one of those days. And this very serious generally short texter sent me back literally this (translated to English):
"Oh my love! I wish I could be there to hug you ...All that you have said I understand dear. And all the effort and work you are doing now will be reflected in the future. I just want you to know that I am very proud of you for everything you do. And at no time have I been disappointed. That I never want you to think about it. Just do what you can, go little by little with everything and it will be seen in the end. I love you, you are the best thing that has ever happened to me"
It's not hard. Even the quietest, most private and serious men naturally react in a supportive manner, even if they don't communicate in the same way (length, complexity, etc., for example mine sent all of this to me but in one sentence whatsapp messages whereas I'm a paragraph texter when I'm emotional). If a man says Damn or something like that it means he does not care. A chatty man will paragraph or call or video chat, a silent man will give his short compassionate quips, but they will always respond sympathetically and with love. Never stand for less.

That’s why you always match his energy. Never give more than you get.

Right? I don't give them any ammo anymore. He says two words? I'll say two words

That’s the right way to go about it. I used to have a friend who would send long paragraphs like this to guys she’d been dating for a couple of weeks, and then wondering why they all ghosted shortly after. She insisted that she had a right to express her feelings and she shouldn’t be punished for that. I tried to explain that no amount of clear and honest communication is going to convince someone to care if they don’t care to begin with..
It’s not like these guys don’t realize you’re upset, it’s that they don’t care —and worse than that, they’re sticking around on the off chance that they’ll get you to give up the issue and fuck them again.
