Saddest part was that she stayed so long because she didn't want her youngest daughter to have a 'broken home'. Then when she told her eldest they'd split: "I thought she’d be upset but she replied ‘so he can’t shout at Mummy anymore?’" Kids pick up so much more than we realise.

Divorce is hard on children, but growing up in a house of abuse and violence is so much worse. 'Staying for the kids' doesn't work. Every child deserves to be safe, happy, and loved. They deserve a mother who is healthy and happy so they can be the best parent possible. This is impossible while living in a DV situation:(

I couldnt even finish this. I'm sickened that this is commonplace and I cant stand reading this story over and over again. I've been working on myself bc I've been in her position, been the brunt of a terrible, insecure monster but not again. I will become the woman I know I can be and find the man that deserves me. We need to make these nightmares go away forever.

I went through something similar with that crazy narc I dated in my 20's. Im so glad we never had children... It was back in the mid 90's. I see my scar everyday that reminds me Im alive. 14 stitches on my face. My one eye took months to heal and one side of my rib cage is still more sensitive to this day.

All was good then one day a switch flipped and how the hell did I get here?

I dont talk about it often and glad Ive never encountered a man like that again.

Just wow. So glad she got out with a great support network of friends to back her.

And it shows that vetting men is freaking difficult. It took him around 3 months and a job loss to start showing some controlling tendencies that escalated into abuse within 2-3 years. I'm taking her warning very seriously. Don't get commited to a man in less than 6 months, and run like your life depends on it the minute he shows any controlling behaviour.
