It is crucial to delineate in our minds the difference between "being a decent person" and "being a good partner". It becomes more difficult to recognize good behaviour as what it is, the bare minimum, when so many fail to meet that mark. This reminds me of YouTuber Alana Arbucci. She made a whole ass video talking about how she knew her (now ex) fiancé was going to be her future husband, and the whole time she just spent listing ways in which he wasn’t abusive like her other ex.🙄 I knew she wasn’t ready to be married just hearing that her standards were “he isn’t abusive to me.” Not surprisingly at all, she just broke up with him.

Who is this queen. I had the exact same mindset of the 'bare minimum' girl bc I haven't experienced that with anyone else. (Except for my best friend). So naturally I leaned towards anyone who was nice, listened and comforted me. Well turns out even nasty people can do that. Raise your standards girls!!! These things are a given. Now if someone does those things its not impressive at all. You need more than that to be considered a special person.

Oh wow... Usually this sub reminds me of my abusive ex, but this video was ME dating my boyfriend that came after the abusive bf.

I thought I was falling in love with him because he was kind, he occasionally told me he really liked me, he wanted to hang out with me often, and he respected my asexuality and didn’t try to pressure me AT ALL into sexual activity I was uncomfortable with.

All of that in comparison to my abusive ex made me feel like “WOW HE IS AMAZING!” Just for basic entry level treatment.
