I would date someone who actually knew a martial art. I'm sure there are a lot of cool people in that community.
However, most people who are into MMA have not trained a day in their lives. I'm talking about the guys who just wear tapout shirts and yell at the tv.

Alright. Here goes:
I don't want to date someone who gets excited over people hurting each other for money.
"Oh, it's not that bad," they say. "These guys are athletes, martial arts are just that, art."
Why are they in a cage, then? Why aren't they paid better? Why do they pretend to talk shit and hate each other before the fight? Which, by the way, reeks of some Wrestlemania bullshit. I wouldn't be at all surprised if atleast some of it is fake.
The blood though? The eyes swollen shut? That's not fake. That's real.
And your boyfriend likes that. He likes watching people get hurt. It's funny.
(I'm probably gonna get a message or two about this. That's fine if you like it. I just wouldn't date you.)

Thank you! That all makes sense. I guess for me, I’ve never watched a boxing match before so probably slightly naive. But he does tell me stories of times he’s fucked civilians up (guys that were doing the wrong thing, but didn’t deserve to be beaten), and it never sits right with me. Sometimes people just say “boys will be boys. And the past is the past.” But it’s more the way he talks about the stories like he’s proud of them - but I’m like, well you have special training that other civilians don’t, so you have an unfair advantage.

He is proud. They were in the wrong, so he beat them up. He won. That's what winning looks like to him, not just having the last word, but hurting someone.
I don't mean to freak you out or anything... but this mindset has a tendency to show up elsewhere. You know, maybe the wallpaper in the bedroom isn't turning out how he wants, so he angrily lodges a tool into the wall. He would have won in that instance. He sure would have shown that wallpaper who was boss.
Maybe you don't act the way he wants, or aren't agreeable enough. Maybe you just won't shut the fuck up. There's a way he could "win" there, too.

My husband is one of those scrappy former fighter types. He fought a lot as a teen/young man due to the shitty area he lived in + bullying. The difference is he is NOT proud. He did what he had to do at the time but he’s not proud of it. He wishes he hadn’t had to have done it. He makes sure to mention that it was painful, scary and he got his ass beat a lot. It wasn’t just him basking in glory lol.

Yea, that last paragraph - unfortunately I haven’t shut the fuck up about things that have hurt me, when he’s yelled at me to stop, or tried to shut me down, and because I haven’t backed down he has gotten physical. I think my self esteem has been decreased so much over time with him, that I’m going around in my own mind that I must deserve it because I don’t shut the fuck up and I fight back. Yea, I need to get out.

I hate watching it because I hate seeing people get hurt and anybody who gets excited about that probably has some machismo issues and will like, punch a wall or something when they're angry or mouth off to some big dude in a bar (which I find SO unattractive).

I think calling women "females" has been around since the 90s, but was more of a Urban African American phrasing. I was watching a talk show from the 90s and this black guy refers to women as females. I think it becoming more and more popular might be due to hip-hop and rap becoming much more mainstream. That's why I sometimes see more people on Twitter trying to speak in a ghetto tone even though they clearly weren't raised in the ghetto.
This is just my guess, though. It could just be men becoming more and more hateful towards women.
