He’s been this way since we were dating - he’ll get me anything nice that he’s getting himself, from socks to nice sunglasses to iPads and headphones. It makes me feel good, but also then we have some more shared experiences cause we’re using the same things - overall I appreciate it and never even realized that’s what he was doing for years

Love it. My ex used to constantly buy nice things for himself because he made 5x my salary. In the beginning of our relationship I was truly broke and wishing for this cast iron dutch oven that I couldn't afford, and then he quietly and unapologetically bought one for HIMSELF (we didn't live together at the time). For my birthday he always got me kitchenware that we would both use in our shared apartment. I love cooking but it would have been nice to receive a gift for ME instead of him only spending money on things he could also benefit from.

My ex-husband bought a shower head to replace the factory one in his bathroom. He was shocked when I asked why he didn't get one for my bathroom. He was literally at the store and chose to buy just one, I didn't even cross his mind.

In any event, the one I got for myself outlasted him.
