Yes, my outgoing, constantly cheerful, life-of-the-party ex had some serious anger beneath the surface. When I exposed his shitty, cheating LV behavior to our mutual friends, you could see the rage in his eyes whenever he looked at me. Pure ice.

The thing is, anger is the only acceptable emotional range a man can have. It’s sad really that patriarchy has both men and women in a chokehold. (I think I read that in a Bell Hooks book.)

So fucking true. Men say women are "too emotional", but they forget that anger is an emotion itself, one they have in abundance. Anger just happens to be the patriarchy's only approved emotion.

Yes. We teach little boys that crying isn't manly and control how they can express themselves. It's terrible because many boys would grow into HVM if they were encouraged to appropriately express their feelings. Huge props to the boy moms who are teaching their sons this now!

Gaming? They scream at the computer when they lose, and even the games involve hitting/killing other players... they seem to seek out ways to be violent.
Watching soccer/bball/football? Scream at tv
Although activities aren't gendered, we can agree that the way in which men approach these activities is gendered.

True true. I’ve gotten hella agitated but I’ve never disrespected my belongings or actually screeched at the top of my lungs. I have yelled “CMOOOONNNN MANNNNNN AAAGGGHHHH” at my tv or a teammate a number of times, though.
I think that it’s just getting caught up in the moment and the competitiveness of it, not necessarily human nature, but a common personality trait. You see worldwide how invested a crowd gets at a sports game (though I’ve never really likes sports like that).

Although, it’s a great glimpse into how bizarre human behaviour can be. We create unnecessarily complicated situations for ourselves that we convince ourselves we must overcome. Sometimes it’s fun, sometimes it’s insane!
Edit in case this reads insensitively: I’m not gendering golf btw, just a stereotypical example. I actually like it, and women make some of the best golfers because they’re less egotistical. Same deal with poker players. Was just having a laugh.

Definitely, gaming isn’t gendered but anytime I mention in passing something about video games to a guy, their first instinct is to question me about it or quiz me. This isn’t super related to the post but it just shows how exclusionary a lot of communities are.

Dated a guy who “loved” gaming and driving, apparently. He would play games in the room next to where I did other things, and he was constantly pissed at the tv. He would talk about how he loved that game, and I would ask why he perpetually cursed at it. With driving, he would always offer to drive, but he absolutely raged at traffic, other drivers, any situation that complicated the open road. I don’t enjoy driving, but being in that passenger seat gave me anxiety, and I cannot describe the relief that came when I found out he didn’t rage while I drove.

My ex has anger issues. He had been into martial arts his whole life. There were times he didn't go or work out and said he was worried it would make him mad cause his body changes or testosterone or whatever. He would go on about how you needed a different mindset to be a fighter. Thing is, there are plenty of peaceful fighters out there who wouldn't hurt a fly. This guy was always itching to.
