The first point, "High-performance women are willing to put in the work," nicely sums up why I stuck with my LVM ex for longer than I should have. It always felt like we were just one small step away from the perfect relationship, and I felt like I just had to work a little bit harder to make it happen. I didn't want to walk away without feeling like I had given it my all.

Thank goodness the universe intervened before it dragged on even longer.

Watch out for toxic people around them, too. Some malignant narcissists collect flying monkeys that they "support" in developing toxic and controlling relationships, insulating themselves from direct blame.

ETA: That's why I had to learn my lesson twice instead of just once. The second narcissist was a girl who inserted herself into all my connections and manipulated them into crazymaking behaviors in order to attempt to project her toxicity onto me. It was sincerely absurd.
