Evolutionary Psychology is one of my biggest pet peeves because followers believe it is infallible and backed by science. It is considered a social science because it is a completely theoretical discipline and it’s theories cannot be tested like other scientific theories. Because we cannot talk to Neanderthals and the like, we cannot know what was going on in their brains like modern psychology today. All we have is their physical remains. In my opinion, it is crazy to try and guess at what a person’s culture was like just from measuring the size of its brain or teeth.

Evo-psych gained a ton of ground on the internet back in the day thanks to the neckbeard, edgelord new atheist movement. See, they rejected the Bible and made fun of believers and all the silly irrational things they preached. BUT, they still wanted to hate women and find a way to categorize females as dumb animals who are slaves to our hormones and need to be led by men. But the story of Eve was a no-go, so what could they do? Ah yes, “science”! Haha dumb females, here’s all the bullshit, just-so stories (informed mostly by Flintstones cartoons) about why women are inferior! Dare you argue with “science”?!

That was a horrifying, but informative read that confirmed a few things I already thought about these "scientists."

This was particularly awful but not surprising:

"When asked in 2015 whether Epstein’s abuse of children had complicated Trivers’ decision to take the billionaire’s money, Trivers responded by describing Epstein as a person of integrity and claiming that girls these days mature so quickly that “by the time they’re 14 or 15, they’re like grown women were 60 years ago, so I don’t see these acts as so heinous.”

Evolutionary psychology seems the perfect tool to justify and rationalise just about anything (namely abuse and bigotry) and of course predators will be attracted to using it like flies to shit. But even hardcore disciplines with high quality evidence behind them can be abused and interpreted in a very problematic way by problematic people. IT's Mah BiOLogY

Stuff like this is why I no longer believe in "brilliant" men. They're not actually smart or philanthropic, they just throw money around and attract greedy lackeys to lick their boots and wax poetic about them. If Epstein didn't have billions, he'd be just another disgusting weirdo. But since him (and many other men) are RICH disgusting weirdos, they get to be lauded as great thinkers or some shit.
