I was like her. She absolutely needs help.

I am not her, though, so I can only speak for myself. But I liked bruises and accepted them from my ex because I thought I deserved them. It was a way for me to bring my psychological pain into the material so that I could see/self-validate that I wasn't just imagining my own suffering.

Holy shit there is a WORLD between safe, sane, consenting kink and this abuse. Getting your hair pulled or your ass slapped is one thing. Punched in the face until you have black eyes? No. And people who perpetuate this as kink do a disservice to everyone, whether or not you’re pro-kink. I’m still generally of the opinion that adults can do what they want in the bedroom as long as everyone consents, but they have to really truly consent. Not consent because they think their partner wants it, which I think many women do, or consent because that’s what they’re used to and they don’t know any better. That’s not real, affirmative consent.
