Any Book Reccomendations?

Norah Vincent- self made man, sounds interesting

My sister hates her and claims she's transphobic as a result she tried to make me add her book to the list of books I promised her I wouldn't read but I had already gotten through it by that point. It think it's a very important book for women and feminists to read. Less so for men but they'll still get value from it.

I get why both radfems like my sister would hate it and why men's advocates like it. Norah, unlike many of her peers, put her money where her mouth is and tried to get as first hand an experience as possible to see if the grass really is greener. Her findings both shocked her and changed her worldview. I gotta respect that. As a result she's on the shortlist of feminists I actually admire and will praise. She treated us as human, came to sympathize with us, and admitted it isn't sunshine and rainbows us like she thought. She admits during the dating section she actually got frustrated and angry with the women she was seeing, how they treated her as a man and how they treated her as a woman were night and day different. She thought she couldn't pass as a man...but said that her mask was effective entirely because all men wear masks and are desperately trying to not let them slip. She fit in because all men are hiding their true selves. She was also shocked how as a woman she was always seen as rather butch (which I think inspired this) but as a man she was seen as rather effeminate and assumed to be gay.

Her "Mulan" action made her understand men FAR more than most women will. I wouldn't exactly advocate for them to do what she did, thankfully she left us a book so they can get close enough.

She's one of the shortlist of feminist names that I point to when I say if more feminists were like them I probably wouldn't have bailed on the movement in disgust.

When she died we lost a real one.

A decade or so ago, the movie "the red pill" released. Supposedly it was meant to expose mens rights activists for being sexists, but in the end turned put quite favorable for them instead. I have seen it recommended multiple times on the mens rights sub.

Do read David Benatar's the Second Sexism - it's one of the best so far. And try to be more open-minded to people even if they have opposite views.

Also read his response to critique. There he dissects the "patriarchy hurts men too" argument.

I think Warren Farrell has generated so much animosity because he's such an effective advocate that misandrists are afraid of him. I strongly recommend you read, at the very least, The Myth of Male Power and Women Can't Hear What Men Don't Say, two of the best books on men's issues ever written.

I've read widely on the topic (and even written a bit myself) and there's a long list of books I could recommend. Highlights would include Herb Goldberg's The Hazards of Being Male (a classic), Aaron Kipnis' Knights Without Armor, Paul Nathanson and Katherine Young's Spreading Misandry, Christina Hoff Sommers' Who Stole Feminism?, Daphne Patai's Heterophobia, and David Thomas' Not Guilty. More recently, I found the two collections Daughters of Feminism by David Shackleton and Sons of Feminism by Janice Fiamengo, and Paul Elam's Men, Women, Relationships worth reading. I recently acquired copies of two highly recommended books, The Empathy Gap by William Collins and Loving Men, Respecting Women by Tim Goldich, but I haven't had a chance to read either yet.

Many of these books also contain bibliographies, so that can give you ideas for even more books to pursue.

Of course feminists love Bell Hooks and hate Warren Farrell. They're polar opposites. Hooks spews vile hatred with nothing but her own ass to pull information from, while Farrell gives actual reasons and stats to back up his non-hateful points.

Christina Hoff Sommers book "The War Against Boys" is a good read and worth checking out. It highlights how the educational system actively discriminates against boys.

I heard some good stuff about Christina Hoff Summers. I've only watched her talks. Unfortunately, I haven't read many good books on gender. I really need to read more books. I'm currently reading one about race politics.

I remember mentioning that it feels problematic that a lot of folks can only name bell hooks, in which will to change was made two decades ago, with the assumption it inherently has all the answers for men and boys now? One theorist feels a bit slim and I know other feminists touch on men’s issues (they do so in gender studies and history of sexuality studies) but they are simply sections not whole books with a focus dedicated to it

Ask Black People how they feel about White Feminism.

Black Comedian Reviews Handmaid's Tale: All dystopian novels are just "What would happen if we treated white people the way we've treated black people?"

White Feminism critiques need to happen, and pretty much White Women took over the woke movement, and proceeded to talk FOR black people.

White Feminism ignores so many problems caused by white women, and refuses to acknowledge many many white women are abusive people.

Those are the main "books" I can give you.

A lot of this space allows us to critique the dogma.of White Feminism.

You should read Dr Curry the man & other black male study scholars so u can clearly see what he talks about black feminist have not & that he doesn’t straw man bell hooks or Kimberly crenshaw. Honestly they deride him because he exposes a lot of faults & fallacies in their theories with papers such as this:

Under Saturn's Shadow: The Wounding and Healing of Men.

This discusses the burdens, pains, toils that men have carried throughout history, and how it has affected our psychological development (from a jungian perspective).

While it does mention patriarchy, it is not anti-men, This one is actually deeply validating when it comes to the struggles men carry, particularly the silent emotional struggles men carry and have carried throughout history (whether it be shame, Inadequacy, responsibility).

It ultimately invites healing, without blame, which is incredibly important. That's kind of a safe space for men, in that sense, because it's a place you can heal for real.

I think it's a deeply important work when it comes to the male experience, the experiencing of living life in a human body as a man. It contains a lot of suffering....and this talks about it deeply, psychologically, and openly without blame or shame.
