Terry Crews is forgetting that the overwhelming majority of black boys are being raised by single black mothers so maybe...just maybe we might have a little knowledge on the subject.

Imagine being so self-absorbed that you interpret a comment on how black men need male role models (a feminsit talking point when the genders are reversed) and then interpret that to be a misogynist attack on your ability to be a mother.

But on the topic in hand, I think it's tragic that Crews isn't able to speak about an issue he clearly cares deeply about, without a bunch of outrage addicts telling him to sit down and shut up. Especially when it's outrage addicts that aren't actually in the best position to speak on the topic (i.e. women assuming they are the authority on men's issues).

This is why Twitter is such a toxic idea; it gives any idiot with a web connection a direct line of communication to people who are positioned (geographically, politically and socially) whole worlds away from them. Of course the hatred will flow! Celebrities and journalists will eventually learn that their Twitter accounts do more to harm their public image than build it.

I respect and applaud Crews' attempts to bring awareness to the issues, I really do. I just think Twitter's absolutely the wrong platform for that in its current state.

Sigh. He said absolutely nothing that was inflammatory or outrageous. Very level headed, very thoughtful the whole time. The offense he had committed (as well as Obama) was to take personal responsibility on behalf of the demographic he wanted to improve. Like, I agree that there are issues with systematic racism, but if we're being honest, centuries of oppression of African Americans has metasticized into cultural attitudes that are counter to building black wealth and will continue to be until they are addressed and undone. Attacking every successful, black, male role model that points this out will help absolutely no one.

I've found that feminism has a streak similar to the moderm civil rights movement: women and minorities are the perfect victim and can do no wrong. I think it would be easier to actually move these objectives forward of they were willing to take even a shred of responsibility for the outcomes we see in society.

Not sure if Terry Crews is even the best person to talk about this. He has a very victim-blamey mentality and often sounds like a female supremacist. Hopefully he's realizing how he can move away from these harmful notions of the world.
