One thing I notice in social media is the tendency for people, mainly girls, to love attention, to get addicted to the validation. To me though, this is exactly what led to Marilyn Monroe becoming depressed and abusing drugs. Once you get passed the excitement of living a glamorous persona with much attention, you realize all you’ve done is objectify yourself and make it so no one sees you for who you really are. Call it the Marilyn Monroe effect, and I think this will lead many many girls of today to become depressed 30 and 40 year olds. I used to dislike these influencers until I realized this, they’re being used by advertisers and they think they’re in control, and then we get mad at them because we are buying into the idea that they are in control as well, but they aren’t. It’s just sad. They say in transactional relationships of any kind there’s always a pimp and a prostitute. What makes this sad is that they don’t even realize they’re prostitutes and when they finally do, they won’t be able to change their life around or have a healthy functioning family. Or at least it’s not likely.

Did you hear about Instagram’s (Facebook’s) decision to begin pilot testing the concept of hiding how many likes a person gets on a post. The person will be able to see it themselves but people won’t see it publically. I assume this is because Instagram realizes that it’s very quickly developed a reputation of being the fake, phony, superficial and self-obsessed person’s platform. They’re trying to scrub themselves of that image because they realize it’s not sustainable.. (notice how many people are now complaining about Instagram being too fake, causing depression, and causing people to constantly compare). It’s seen as a thot’s social platform and already people are sick of it. I’m just waiting for it to die out. I’d love for Instagram to also block out and censor how many followers people have. That would prevent the creepy, phony “influencers” from going to desperate lengths such as purchasing followers.
