I'm a father with custody of my soon-to-be-eighteen daughter. The court expects each parent to (ideally) provide equal financial support. So when my ex doesn't pay (as she hasn't for several years) who do you think makes up the shortfall?
It is a common misperception that a woman collecting past-due child support is somehow shorting the child when it frees her to do something for herself, but the reality is that she's been both mother-support and father-support in the past. She's paid in her fair share... as I have... over and over and over and over and over and when finally the other parent chips in don't condemn her if she can finally do something for herself.

I'm sure there's a subreddit where white knighting is welcome. Like the entire rest of Reddit.
[+]SnowSnowSnowSnow-30 points-29 points-28 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
It's not 'white knighting' to appreciate when people do what they are supposed to do. Condemn when condemnation is warranted, and I'm sure in many cases where custodial support is substantial enough to buy the kid a new car every month that it is warranted. But bitching about a woman dropping $20 to get her nails done and popping for a new pair of shoes because the non-custodial parent finally met his court-ordered obligation is just fucking petty.
[–]BKAtty9921728 points29 points30 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
We all understand the fungibility of money, and if the kid is fed and ok your point is correct. But when the rest of our gynocratic society is ready to stick up for this nasty cunt, I fail to understand why anyone in this sub would bother doing so.
[–]Yakatonker22 points23 points24 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Get what your saying but reality doesn't curve a majority of time to your personal experience. Most woman are dependants, particularly as the welfare system is designed to impinge people from earning in excess of poverty. Where the super majoroty are women there is mass abuse and warranted stereotyping and male cynicism. Though if presented in a specific scenario as your own I'm sure others would be obliged to sympathize.
But common, $20 women's shoes?, maybe the nails depending on the area but I've never seen women's shoes that cheap, especially the shoes with the fake fur liner.
[–][deleted] 35 points36 points37 points 9 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
CHILD support. Not "hey I'm a single parent and something finally gave way now I can buy something for myself" support. I'm a single dad too bro. If you got paid child support, and you bought video games with it, or something other than food for your kids or an electric bill, you're adhering to the patriarchy too.
[–]SnowSnowSnowSnow0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
If the non-custodial parent is in the hole for $2,000 of unpaid child support that means that the custodial parent has paid $4,000... $2,000 that was his obligation, and $2,000 that was not. I'm not going to feel bad about recouping money that I had to spend to support my child while she got to do whatever the fuck she wanted with hers.
[–][deleted] 12 points13 points14 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Ok, this I agree with.
I've got 50/50 with no payments direct to the ex, but I pay for half of everything, so sometimes I go through life stuck in my perspective. I didn't think of it that way and have to apologize for being a dick about it. I didn't do the math I just reacted emotionally at it.
[–]FunkOff-2 points-1 points0 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Snow is correct. The child's expenses (healthcare, daycare, et cetera) are mandatory and still must be paid even if the child support isn't provided. A single mother may have to forgo discretionary expenses for herself if child support is not paid, or delay expenses for herself if child support is paid late.

[–]realChebz1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I am glad it worked out for you, but what you are describing is an anecdote. The fact is that the woman is enabled by the courts to steal from a man and call it "child support" and majority of them make use of it. And if a man fails to pay it, guess what? he goes to jail. Your stories about your honorable ex are absolutely irrelevant to this conversation.
[–]ac7140 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I think you are right. You have to word things just right though when talking to an adversarial crowd. They'll interpret things any way they want and it will be taken as 100% you being in the wrong either way.

She wouldn't have to do both if the courts would start us dad's having 50/50 custody from go. But due to blatant sexism and prominent false acusations, the whole premise is a joke, so I'll condemn away.

This comment doesn't deserve the downvotes it's getting. Child support can certainly be criticized in the way that it is calculated or determined, but the fact-of child support itself is pretty clearly a necessary concept.
[–]Painislove20166 points7 points8 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The fundamental problem with child support is that there is zero accountability for the funds once it leaves the fathers hands. I wouldn't be grudge single dime going to my kids, if it actually went to my kids. She's probably on welfare/WIC as well.

Huge difference.
If I'm supposed to get say... $100 a month for my child, let's say for simplicity all of this money is intended for food, but my partner have not paid me for the past 12 months.
What do you think must happen?
Option A: pay for baby food out of my own pocket, foregoing non necessities if required.
Option B: not buy the baby any food, continuing spending my money on myself. Not my problem my partner isn't paying me for baby food.
Now suddenly, your partner pays everything in one go, BAM! $1,200. Do you:
Option A: buy 12 months worth of food in one go, not my problem if the food spoils, shouldn't have paid me all at once.
Option B: spend money on things I missed out on earlier.
Option C: squirrel the money away, enjoy the misery as long as possible
Option D: who cares, I didn't feed the baby for the last 12 months, it's dead.
Genuinely interested in what options you'll pick.
[–]Jcart1052 points3 points4 points 9 years ago* (11 children) | Copy Link
You shouldn't be getting shit in the first place if the father has limited custodial rights in the first place. If you are financially unable to provide for the child, then you shouldn't be entitled to primary custody of the child. The only reason you feel anything is owed to you is due to how excessively Gynocentric our society is.
[–]Elee31120 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link
First off... where does it even say the father doesn't have limited custodial rights?
Secondly, if one partner can't afford to provide for the child, the other does not want primary custody, or, if both can't afford it single-handedly, what do you propose? Is it off to the the giant blender for the kid? Is it the state-enforced adoption? Or is it "Screw you and what you want, you're looking after this kid now"?
[–]Jcart1051 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
Because women get primary custody of children almost 90 percent of time in child-custody cases?
[–]Elee31121 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
90%?! Holy crap that's high!
Also, holy crap! That's REALLY irrelevant in a discussion about how you figured the father didn't have limited custody!
Here you go. It's 42% in 2008. And it was on a downward trend. You have a pretty high chance of being wrong.
https://psychcentral.com/news/2014/05/22/joint-custody-becoming-the-norm/70199.html
I see you ignored my question though, so here it is again: if the mother can't afford raising the kid, and the father doesn't want custody, what then? Does the father end up being forced to raise said child?
Oh hey, here's a research task for you, how many percent of all divorced fathers opt out of custody?
[–]Jcart1052 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
Holy shit, you are either fucking retarded or you are blatantly and intentionally misrepresenting statistics.
It shows sustained changes in mother-sole custody cases over the past 20 years: down from 80 percent in 1986 to 42 percent in 2008. This decline is largely mirrored by a dramatic increase in shared custody.
That was only 'mother-sole custody'. Just because it's no longer 'mother-sole custody' doesn't mean it's 50/50 joint custody in the slightest — there's a reason why I stated primary custody, but you were either too incompetent or blatantly misrepresented my view point to push your false narrative.
Primary Custodial Rates
I ignored your question, because your initial premise prior to your question was so blatantly false that I didn't see it fit that I waste more time on it.
However, I'll respond here: if she happens to conceive — the father should put a down-payment on the cost of an abortion if the prospective mother wants to keep the child but the father doesn't want it. If the woman decides to keep the child, it should be her sole responsibility to provide for it — ABSOLUTELY NO child support AND NO WELFARE or government benefits, period.
It's pretty much a given that the father in question will lose unless the mother is a crack addict or something of that nature, divorce/family-trial lawyers are very expensive — why waste even more resources for a futile effort?

When shaming is banned and, ironically, heavily shamed by both men and women in the west, I can't really call her shameless. She has been taught from birth that this behavior is not only acceptable, but actually praiseworthy, and the comments supporting her only reinforce that. She's never been taught to feel shame for doing the wrong thing, because she has been taught that doing the wrong thing is not only good, but empowering.

Tbf, she could likely have afforded these things on her own if the child support checks were showing up regularly. Since money is money, wherever she got it, it could also be seen as a story of how she held off treating herself for months or even years while waiting for child support, and then once she was finally on a path where her child would definitely be able to eat, she decided to treat herself. I got here of all on a mobile app, and idk what the hell this sub is, so if it's some red pill-Esque, women hating club, I'm sorry to have replied, but it's really crazy to assume she's being irresponsible when you don't have all of her financial information. This hits close to home. My dad paid 800 a month in child support (perhaps per kid - just me and my bro) he was wealthy. My mom never got us shit. All she fed us was microwave shit yet cooked rice and beef for her dog every night. She was in charge of the money my dad gave her for my college - a substantial sum.
She made me get a job at 15 to pay for my own food and what not.
I never saw a dime of that money she "lost" all of it. My dad was able to look into financial records and found out it all disappeared when I was 16 the day she threw me out.
A lot of this stuff caused me to grow up faster than my peers and become more independent so no big deal. Blessings in disguise I guess. Anyway...
A few months ago I asked her what she did with all child support. Her answer? "Your father owed me that money I helped him start that business."
She is a dumb sack of shit, I know for a fact she didn't.
[–]bdf3942 points43 points44 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I guess I should add my dad is a smart mofo. He never got a lawyer and represented himself he succeeded in eventually getting child support stopped and getting joint custody everyday after school. Meanwhile my mom constantly lost in court even with a lawyer looool. That's probably where all the support went.

My mom also threw me out. Teenage boys suddenly start eating a lot. In my case, it was around age 13. So between food, clothing, etc., there was nothing left over from my child support for my mom to confiscate for herself, like she had been doing.
So at age 13, she threw me out. They're such wonderful people.

In my opinion the part that makes sex really fun is the ego boost you get from it. The pure physical sensations aren't better than those you get from your hands or from a fleshlight, especially because you have to use a condom with a girl while you can masturbate without a condom.
But hey, if you want to have sex, have at it.

I used to see a lot of people's experiences as rookie mistakes where they should have known, but in fact men have had to communicate this stuff under the radar of the broader culture. Men will be happy to pay child support not just for 18 years but for life if all of it went to the kid. I'll pay my daughter's school. Once a week I'll take her to the mall and she can buy all the things that she needs, school stuffs, clothes, shoes, etc.
She is my daughter and I will be happy to spend money on her but not her mother.
[–]Wraeclast_Exile7 points8 points9 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Right, well, I agree, but getting rid of child support seems to be the only way, since we can't regulate how the money is spent. However, if we could regulate it, then yes, that's better.

It would be so easy to have a joint debit card for the mother and father to share. They would get statements on everything purchased and each contribute half for everything. If you wanted to get down to it you could file the receipts and argue everything.

Here's the thing people never ask. If the woman is unable to financially support the child, then why the fuck does she get primary custody in the first place? It's just sheer Gynocentrism of today's society that you won't be able to get past until it inevitably falls.
[–]Wraeclast_Exile1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yes... kind of fishy how that happens in the court system.
[–]dogwoodcat17 points18 points19 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
He should take that to the judge. Child support is not alimoney.
[–]32BitWhore6 points7 points8 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
I doubt a judge would take that seriously, and it would probably be fairly easy for her to convince the judge that it was a joke, even if it wasn't (which, let's be honest, it wasn't).
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Well, and the judge likely understands that with money being fungible, her using the wrong bank account to pay for something isn't really a misuse of funds as long as the child still gets taken care of. If she had used her own money for these, and was still getting child support, it wouldn't be a different situation, since it's all the same from an accounting standpoint. As long as her accounts payable for her child is more than her child support check, this isn't wrong.
[–]32BitWhore0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Fair point, if she was near zero in her own account from buying things for her child and only bought these with the child support money as a "reimbursement," I can see a judge siding with her on it anyway. I still think there needs to be more accountability when it comes to child support spending transparency. Like, an EBT type thing but for child support payments maybe.
[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I mean, it wouldn't work well, but I like the idea of a receipt/reimbursement system, this way if someone gets something unnecessary, they have to give proof of buying something unnecessary that they want money for.
[–]Bluehusky240 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I'm curious how this argument would work in a case in which the ex does not work, but instead just collects child support from several men, which happens quite frequently in my area.
that's the part of child support that really rubs me the wrong way. The courts say to the father you are financially responsible for this child and must maximize your income however a woman is under absolutely no obligation to financially support herself or the children in that she is allowed to use child support to cover all of her own needs as well.

Come on now, no bus deserves that kind of punishment.

This shit triggers me. Same stuff happened with my own mother and father.
I try to repress these memories.
[–]MidnightParlor8 points9 points10 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Basically every kids' story from 1970's on. Its rare to find anyone whose parents are still together anymore.
[–]BKAtty992176 points7 points8 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Indeed. My mother didn't kick me out though. At 14 I just packed my shit and told her I was moving to my Dad's. I told her if she tried fighting it in Court she'd never see me again. Within a few months we moved a State away and she rarely saw me again. I don't think she gave a fuck though. It wasn't until I became a lawyer and started making money that she even tried to have contact with me.
[–]32BitWhore0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
My parents split when I was about 12, but luckily the divorce was fairly amicable since the reason for the divorce was my dad coming out as gay (pretty good reason for divorce if you ask me). My mom was actually better off than my dad financially and they mutually agreed to not do child support as far as I'm aware, so I never had to deal with being put in the middle of them like a bargaining chip.
Not all divorces have to be shitty.
[–]Cuisinart_Killa13 points14 points15 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
He could use this in court to get custody. She's not spending the money on the child as intended.
[–]rcgarcia0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Is this how it works? I'm genuinely curious. Your payments must go only to child necessities?
[–]Cuisinart_Killa8 points9 points10 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It's called child support not wife support.
[–]Slaide7 points8 points9 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It throws an ice pick to the heart.

bithc asking bout child support, she gon get life support - the based god
[–]tannerwoody5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
She needs to be put out of our misery...
There's people in here defending this lol. I know MULTIPLE women that live off child support payments and government benefits. My own mother, NEVER spent a cent of child support money on me. She lived with her mom for free and would spend the checks splurging on herself.
[–]MajorBeef242 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Women are children, so it kinda is child support.
[–]sheldongriffiths1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Why do some people give so many useless information? I get why she showed her new pair of shoes but why in the hell she said about child support? That's the reason I think pictures like this are always fake
[–]casemodsalt3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You forget how dumb some people are. Especially minority single mothers. She's bragging. This is probably an accomplishment for her.

To be fair, child support is a % of Juan's income, which could be more than the kid needs, so why the fuck not. Bring on the sharia law
If I was him I wouldn't give her Juan more penny!

So and so finally sent child support so I went and enrolled him into soccer and here's a picture of his first day of practice said no divorced mother ever.
The jackass who was defending her completely missed the point. When a divorced person gets money from the other parent it's not meant to free up money so they can splurge on themselves. The idea is your children are your reward. The days of buying Uggs and getting your nails did are over, woman. Your surplus monies and energies are meant to be directed toward your offspring. Why? Because they didn't have a fucking choice in being created. You owe it to them.
And yes. I can say this without hypocrisy. I won custody of my daughters and you better fucking believe I walked my own talk.
Get snipped, guys. That was the best choice I made in my life. Saved my ass when I woke the fuck up.
[–]asdrojas-4 points-3 points-2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Maybe the father hasn't pay child support for several months and she was expending all her money on the child, and now, she finally can spend money on herself. Her money problems should had been big to not be able to afford nail polish.
Either she isn't working at all or is terrible with money.
