There are two different sides here. On one side, they know their product failed and they are now trying to sell it off to recuperate the losses by offering sales and free play time. On the other hand, they can't afford to admit their fault because that would show to their investors and employees that they were severely out of touch with their customers.

I'm still bitter about them killing off the Sim City Franchise, which I loved and played since the very first version. That was one of the worst fiasco's I have ever seen... whoever had the idea to take a traditionally single player, then put DRM in it and multiplayer regions with teenie tiny map plots was a fucking moron. Haven't purchased an EA game since then, sounds like I made the right choice.
