Tomorrow will make a year i've been on the gym, i'm really happy of my body now.

Hell yeah brother, I've been doing boxing since last May. I feel like I've been wasting a lot of time before this year.
[β]Periidot6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
iβve been thinking about boxing, are there any cheap boxing bags i can get somewhere?
[β]cakeisgreat6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I was able to buy a heavy bag and speed bag + stand for like 200 bucks from Dick's. I don't really know where the best place to get one is though.
[β]Anonymous186503 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The one I bought at Dicks didn't last more than a year but it was worth it. Beat the hell out of that thing and have improved with the timing and speed. I recommend everyone get into it!!!

Sometimes being skinny is a good thing, like getting your arms and hands into tight spaces. Comes in handy for appliance repair.

I started last november as well, 50 lbs overweight. Although i looked normal for an american technically i was obese by medical standards. Started working out and dieting and i've lost 15 lbs so far. Not as much as i'd like but i've gotten stronger. It's not a race; as long as i reach my destination i will hold my head up high.
[β]GimmeSumChon-Chon3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link
That's awesome!~ but its a lifelong journey.
i've been working out for 15 yrs.
You dont get it in year 1 or even year 5.
We are always progressing.
If you stick to it , you will most certainly surprise and inspire yourself and others around you.
When i see someone who is put together well physically, i respect them instantly because i know what type of dedication that takes.
I feel similar to guys or people with body suit tatts....that shit takes commitment and serious dedication to enjoying pain.
This is 100% why we secretly respect and are in awe of these things in others...because the universal laws of logos and the universe forces our psyche to respect those who endure pain and suffering to achieve greatness or to reach their desired goals.
We must learn to enjoy mundane ,repetition and begin to embrace and love what pains us in life to achieve greatness.
Women, largely for the most part, are physically and most importantly mentally incapable of these things.

Since you're an experienced lifter, can you give me some advice? I was 147 pounds November of 2019 and now in January I'm 157 pounds at 6 foot. I'm not fat and have clear visible abs and my plan is to bulk more. I eat about 300 kcal above my maintenance level and track everything but how should I move forward? I was thinking about bulking to 176 and then do a cut or should I do mini cuts in between?
[β]GimmeSumChon-Chon1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
You can do either or but i would say this to start with: The fitness industry is a business, like the diet industry is.
And these businesses are in business to ...wait for it....make money!
We are just consumers to them and the truth is that there isn't any one specified way to get results!
When i was in Donovan Correctional level 4 in the CDC , they CO's pinched the weights on the machines and we were limited to 100-120 lbs on all 5-6 machines because free weights got banned when some fucken dumbass hit someone with a plate...
So what did we do, MORE REPS! The most important thing in weight training besides consistency and diet is of course the mind-muscle connection. If you cannot flex your muscle to the point where it cramps and actually hurts, then you don't have a great mind/muscle connection and you need to use low weights heavy reps to build it up.
Its a myth that rep workouts "cut" and that heavier weights "bulk"...these are lame generalizations that may have flown in the 70s, but we know more than we used to.
Here is what i'd do if i were you....
I'd first and foremost start training to failure. Do sets with as many reps until your body part is so weak you cant do another rep.
I do a push/pull/leg split in my routine and only take 1 day off every 13-14 days.
You dont need to rest more than that.
You rest at night when you sleep.
Second, count macros but more importantly reduce the sugar obviously but also stop eating the leafy ,lab made green stuff. Its toxic to your body.
Kale , spinach ,broccoli and leafy greens are man-made crap that don't occur in nature and are loaded with anti-nutrients like oxalates and goitrogens. Green beans and asparagus( a grass strain) are usually cooked a lot and aren't as toxic.
Also, nuts/seeds/legumes and pressed seed oils like sunflower oil or palm oil all contain cancer causing toxins and anti nutrients like phytic acid that rob your digestive process of nutrients ...
They make the body struggle and work hard to digest and process these things, which will hinder hypertrophic muscle growth.
I gained 80 lbs of permanent muscle in 13 yrs from these methods.
You need to eat , eat , eat and then eat some more!
You need 1gram of protein per lb of body weight daily to build and close to that amount to maintain.
Rare beef, lactose free milk (fairlife) ,greek yogurt, fish, fish eggs (roe), game meat ,eggs, chicken etc ...
Meat and animal products are our natural human diet. Veganism is a mental disorder and a cult like movement thats not sustainable...but i digress.
Don't consume creatine, you get all the carnitine and creatine you need from rare/raw beef.
YES, High quality raw beef is healthy and safe!
Also, the only supplements you should take are EAA's not BCAA's...
Check out Jeff Cavaliere (athlean x) and Jeff Nippard on youtube...they have great info.

Being fat is the new beauty norm pushed by mainstream media, being yourself is good, having a choice is not bad either, but it is absurd when illness becomes beauty
[β]bambambam1042 points43 points44 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
that only applies to women, not fat men, no one is glorifying fat men at all. it's because women are the gatekeepers of mainstream media now, and the narrative that a woman needs to work on themselves is not acceptable to them. they want all women of all types to be accepted as they are because each one is a beautiful, delicate flower with no flaws, and why would they ever need to change or improve when there is nothing to change or improve... men on the other hand are seen as fully flawed so if they work on themselves, that's normal, everything is going according to their plan.
[β]nnfl14 points15 points16 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
We did get the βdad bodβ trend but that didnβt last. In a way, Iβm happy theyβre not lying to us like they are to women. Still sucks that theyβre lying to women though because now we have all of these fat women with egos that are way too high.
[β]ummagumma997 points8 points9 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That is also a fact. They push for equality but it is ironic because it is inequal. It is always easer to stay in your lowest point than do some work and climb few steps up.

I don't understand fat people. I was born in the 80s and ever since then, all that a child is exposed to is JACKED pro wrestlers or JACKED super heroes. There was no other option in my mind about how a guy should look. I've worked out non stop since age 14 or 15.
[β]AverageatUFC38 points9 points10 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I know you're lying because I saw on CNN that men don't suffer from body issues or feel pressure from society to look a certain way.
On the real though, if I didn't start BJJ as a teen I know I'd have a fucked up body image too. Being 6' and 150lbs wet at 16 doesn't exactly match up with society's expectations of a man...
Turns out being 6'1 and being able to weigh 150lbs, as an adult, easily gave me a massive advantage in grappling and ultimately in MMA. That's when I started feeling comfortable in my skin
[β]AlwaysGYOW1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I appreciate hard work and discipline. But I don't think we can blame the obesity epidemic entirely on character issues. There are big systemic problems, among them the increasingly sedentary nature of work & life, increasing urbanization/separation from nature, a food & beverage industry & culture that promotes highly processed and high-carb foods and alcohol, and medical providers who ignore or misunderstand good nutrition. In this context, staying fit requires not just constant vigilance & effort, but also being fortunate enough to find the right information, in a sea of both deliberate and well-intentioned misinformation. So I think I understand (and have real empathy for) many fat people.
[β]U-941 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I'd file finding the right information under the same vigilance to exercise daily. I definitely didn't know all my diet stuff at 15. Took a long time. I remember quitting sodas and juices in 2009, along with white bread. Cut all carbs in 2013. Did beef only from 2018-2019. Constantly tweaking, shocking the body, trying everything along with my regular exercise routines.
At the end of the day I know that life is just easier when you look better. Starving for a while and never eating ice cream again is worth that easier life.
[β]RPDunkleBomb0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Even if you're not the hulk, fat weight is an issue of impulse control, always. You can always eat less, many just choose not to.
[β]AlwaysGYOW2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I understand your perspective. But I've learned from personal experience is that what you eat can make impulse control (& caloric intake) either a constant, unsustainable struggle (see carb addiction & blood sugar swings) or relatively easy (via keto pathway & adequate fat intake). This may not be true for everyone, but I think a lot of people in advanced societies are fighting this, and don't even know it.
The broader cultural influences matter as well. What foods are constantly offered & advertised, and most easily accessed? What were you fed as a child? What do your friends & family serve when you go to their homes? Does your social circle drink habitually? Are your closest friends active or sedentary? These things inevitably impact people's choices daily. And it's the sum of our daily choices that determine our outcomes.
I don't know how else to explain the epidemic of obesity that's sweeping industrialized countries around the world. "Eating too much" is correct, but too simple to be really helpful. It's like saying the cause of suicide is pulling the trigger or swallowing the pills.
I agree! I guess I group 'working out' and 'eating healthy' into the same category about being mindful and taking pride in your appearance.

I need to stop eating so much... FFS. I used to be lean but I stopped caring a few years ago and it shows.
Btw if anyone wants to sculpt themselves, the primary thing you want to worry about is your diet. If you're eating like shit then it doesn't matter how much you go to the gym. You'll look like shit.
[β]redditloadedwithnpcs6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Cut the empty carbs out and replace with healthy fats instead. You will feel satiated long after you finish eating and won't need to snack, and you'll also lose the cravings for crappy food.

I use to run like 7 miles a day back in HS. I recently decided to get back in shape and now run about 3-4 miles every day. I'm about 10 lbs lighter since mid december.
One important thing to note also. In the end, if you want to lose weight, you need to make sure your daily calorie intake is less than what is recommended (which is 2000ish for me without exercise). Exercising won't mean anything if you're still overeating.
KEEP GOING LADS!
[β]weird_quiet_guy4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Cut out sugary drinks and beer from your diet. Focus on just drinking water. I started with this and lost a ton of weight.
Remember that getting into shape will not happen overnight. Learn to be consistent, have patience. In the end, the long term rewards and benefits will be worth it.
