First, let me tell you that at a restaurant near me earlier today a man was in the ladies room, and just last week a customer complained that when she went into the restroom this same guy was in there.

the fear of men, androphobia, is endemic in our culture. It's in the scope of the ideas we have about men. We are not only to quick to assume the worst, the only explanations that occur to us for men's actions, often, are nefarious ones.

The guy is the dishwasher at the restaurant, he goes in there a couple times a day to clean, sometimes briefly inconveniencing the patrons.

Feminists are always pointing out famous women in history who "prove the superiority of women" because they were able to succeed in a male dominated field in spite of "male oppression."

But women weren't actually oppressed in most cases, they merely felt intimidated around men, and so were "oppressed" by their own timidity.

Society can't control how women feel, and most of the time women feel paranoid or angry regardless of how much we do to accomodate them. In fact, the more we coddle and empower them, the more time and energy they have to focus on complaining about righting imaginary wrongs by persecuting anyone that disagrees with making the world a gynocentric dystopia.

So we should just quit that bullshit.

I dated a nurse, they will comment on and show a guys junk to other nurses while he is under. “You gotta see this” if the guy is particularly big. They do this fairly openly. If men did that it would be a major issue.

Seriously, I'd be wary of having a friend like her. Her way of thinking is way beyond flawed and falls neatly into pure paranoia. I'd be afraid that a person like her would either misrepresent something I did or make up some instance where I 'harassed' her.

I don't think I need to explain why her reasoning is clear madness. So a room full of different professionals who might not even know each other might find it attractive to rape an unconscious woman with tubes and instruments going in and out of her, and a bloody abdominal wound close to the vagina would really make things easy for them too.

Meanwhile, what I do sympathise with is that patients often have to make do with the medical professional that is available even when it comes to very personal things where a person of the same gender might make them feel more comfortable. Most women have no issues with a male gynaecologist or a male radiologist for breast examination. But I would understand if some women feel more comfortable with another woman.

Men often have to face the same situation. There are many female urologists and some men are more comfortable with being examined by another man. But it is not something I've ever heard a man complain about or do something about.

But what I am talking about is just 'comfort' and not paranoia that is straight out of a psychiatric textbook.

Your friend has problems. What you have, my friend, is an incorrect explanation for the result of the situation. Women up till now were not allowed in professions like that, which is why it is misogynistic. It's not as simple as an evaluation based on switching genders.

I have a bit of an interesting point. Note I'm female. I was thinking about why we are so scared of men. I'm not saying it's justified but here it is. From a young age girls are taught to fear men because they are stronger and stuff. We are taught by our mothers and fathers to protect ourselves with our keys or cross the street or don't get caught alone. It is society's need to keep males in positions of power. We are taught from a young age to stay in our place and be submissive as to not disrupt power. The downside of this is that not only is it a step back from inequality but it also makes sure that men and women dont have that ability to fully communicate. I really don't believe it's justified. Yes there are some men who justly should be feared but that gives people now reason to fear all. I think again it's like we don't know who is safe and who is not. I've been treated poorly by guys and I'm not going to lie that I fear men. I try not to because again it can't be justified. But it's hard. Sorry if this doesn't really make sense. I'm not too good and getting out things from my brain.

Edit: I don't believe that fearing women makes you a monster in any way. If you fear someone or something it obviously comes from a place of trauma either learnt from experience or taught. Whoever is invalidating you on your fears is an asshole.

Neither of you are wrong. This is a matter of personal opinion and preference. They're your own feelings, and you're just as welcome to call her names for what she thinks as well. Neither of you have to feel comfortable. It's okay.

While her claim seems to be rather ridiculous, I fully understand where she’s coming from, and your comparison doesn’t hold water. Of course, in this particular case she has nothing to worry about and she’s most definitely overreacting, but on a normal basis the outcome can change quite a bit.

You gotta remember that the average man is physically capable of raping an average female, while the opposite isn’t normally the case. Thus, it is of logical fear why your normal woman would be more distrusting of a group of men. It’s not really based off of sexism or anti-male hatred, but rather an instinct of self-preservation.
