"She"? You seem to forget abortion is usually a man's shared choice in a healthy relationship.
Both parties are on the hook here and most couples make the decision as a couple, not by one party coercing the other through legal and medical force.

Morning after pill is irrelevant if contraception fails, you don't know you need it.

Also the morning after pill (and IUDs) prevents implantation, which is specifically banned in some proposed legislation as equivalent to abortion since the egg has been fertilised. This is the goal of I think most of the anti abortion movement, they don't have a choice if they say personhood begins at conception.

Adoption is again a shared choice in a healthy relationship. If the mother tries to put the baby up for adoption the first question is "does the father agree". People cling onto rare exceptions to feed their outrage habit, but in the real world the normal thing is if the parents are not together the father brings up the child if the mother does not want to AND the father is willing and competent.

You have the right to feel how you want about the fetus, but the truth is there are just as many people who don't feel the same so limiting their rights because you have a different moral opinion is selfish.

People who agree won't do it, people who don't, can if they want/need to.

The reality is men's ability to not have kids they don't want is being hugely diminished by these anti abortion laws and the many that will follow.

You are stuck on cutting off your nose to spite your face in pursuit of a law you had exactly zero chance of getting introduced to the real world in the first place.

Women's final say on abortion delivered the result men wanted in the vast majority of cases, despite a significant number of women changing their mind and deciding to keep the baby, or aborting a baby the father wanted to take care of, or babytrapping or spermjacking etc.

That has been thrown away. Anti abortion laws will infest the US and be locked in for decades by the stacking of federal courts and SC. And men will pay extra (billions, not just tens or hundreds of millions) for children which neither parent wanted, and will be the father in a family they did not want.

The idle dream of financial abortion was dependent on the taxpayer taking over the father's responsibility to support the child if the mother cannot. That was not ever seriously considered in socialist or mixed economy countries, let alone the US. Even if we pretend it was slightly possble in the past, it is not now.

Removing the option could be positive for men.

I will admit to riding bareback on more than one occasion, with the )in hindisght) totally FALSE belief that I could rely on the woman being at least vaguely fucking sensible and actually considering MY feelings should the unthinkable happen.

One day the unthinkable happened, and no, SHE decided to keep it.

I did all the right things, moved towns, along with all my furniture etc, only to end up as a male victim of DV and abuse, to end up losing contact with my daughter when she was 4. So no, it didn't work out well.

But then again, perhaps it did, as when she turned 18, 4 years ago, I was able to get in touch and we have a good relationship now.

If I knew, for sure, that the girl didn't have the legal option of abortion even if she wanted to, I'd have been more diligent on protection and would NOT have made the mistake of believing the woman when she said she was on the pill and didn't want another child (yeah, single mother. I know. I was an idiot, but that's my point; the law made being so idiotic seem reasonable at the time!)

Heck, the more I think about it the more I agree.

Ban abortion. Mandatory 5 years in jail, ie about 1/3 of what a man would get for killing a kid.

What a nightmare. I'm glad you made contact again at 18.

Of course poor people will take more care if abortion is restricted to just rich people. (Rich people can not be stopped from getting what they want). But we already know how many unwanted babies will be born from that option, because it exists right now in several countries.

I talked to a girl on Reddit who was in the UAE I think, abortion was punishable by death and she was also somewhat concerned that her father might literally bury her alive publicly as a solution to the problem. Yet knowing that, she chose to have sex with her BF at 16 and messed up the condom somehow.

I've known of plenty of contraception failures in couples who didn't want another child. Some aborted, some didn't. Some thought they would, then changed their mind when faced with the reality of a pregnancy. That is quite common.

We know the history of western countries without abortion. I should have been aborted, my birth was a catastrophe for three families and it will take generations for the damage to heal. Two suicides and three childless men have tidied matters up quite a bit though.

What we had before was orphanages, the horrors of the fostering system, children told their mother was their sister/cousin/aunt, poverty, lifelong stigma for fallen women and caddish men. And that was with religion as a working force in society. I don't see it as preferable. And we have a huge population problem anyway.

Having been married to a social worker for 16 years I can tell you giving children to the father in toddlerhood is a non-starter in the west. We talk a lot in MR about men denied access to their children but we don't talk about the opposite scenario where the man can not be relied upon to spend regular or any time with his children let alone have them live with him, and/or will not support them except via legal compulsion.

The gender earnings gap is very little about prejudice, it is nearly all accounted for by the different choices men and women make about accommodating childcare along with work. Men make themselves unavailable to look after children because men choose careers, and jobs within those careers, and contracts within those jobs which are just incompatible with care of children. Talk about 50/50 shared care quickly goes quiet when they realise they will need to abandon their job and find one that lets them come to work until after the school run, and take school holidays off, and finish at 3pm.

I prefer the information of people with personal experience to that of theorists.

Most women have had scares bad enough to make them seriously think about abortion if they have not before.
Many have had one. A few, more than one.
I've heard several women describe their abortion, and read many more. None sounded "creepy".

Of the ones I met personally none took it lightly, they were older and wiser. My wife often wondered about her abortion, how it would have been if she had given birth as a young woman with no tertiary education. But like everyone else I met she didn't wish she had chosen differently. I originally wrote they didn't regret it, but that's not accurate.

On the other side, those denied an abortion by various methods? It is late, I'm tired and this is making me sad because I help out on our SuicideWatch sub sometimes and I remember more than I want to.

Oh wait, there's me too. Abortion was illegal, (i.e. reserved for the affluent) when I was born, so I was born. Three families were wrecked by the combination of my father's promiscuity and lack of abortion.
This was in the Golden Age when lack of abortion prevented promiscuity, remember. /s It didn't work then and it won't work now. The wreckage of my father's families will take another generation or two to clear. Three childless men and two suicided women has helped tidy up the mess.
