so embrace that the us is banning abortions federally

they will only change their attitude towards men's rights if they lose the right to sexual consequences themselves and are forced into sterilisation like men, they were fully lost in their double standard normality

There are NO “strong and independent” women in divorce court.

All that feminist energy evaporates when “free” money is just waiting to be extracted.

How can someone dare say such a blatantly sexist thing?! You dirty men should keep your legs closed!

If women want to say “my body, my choice”, then men should be allowed to say “my money, my choice”

Men should be allowed to refuse to pay alimony and child support as well as cutting all taxes and spending that disproportionately benefits women

Or "my eyes my choice" when it comes to the metro or "my crotch my choice" when it comes to opening your legs slightly so you don't feel discomfort and pain, don't suffocate your testicle, don't risk testicular torsion, and prevent increase in risk of testicular cancer.

Imagine if we started telling women what they can or cannot look at. There would be riots.

Imagine holding women accountable to the same degree men are held accountable in ANY manner?

Saying “NO” to the unreasonable demands of women in any instance is very taboo

[–]PaulfussKrile 22 points23 points24 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I don’t think that the feminists thought it through when they decided they should reserve any power to take their kids away from their fathers. They just created the perfect narrative for fathers to be negligent with the new lives they put into the world. After all, why should I, as a man, support a child if I have no control over the role I play in their lives?

[–]shit-zen-giggles 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yep. No taxation without representation comes to mind often when thinking about these issues.

“But ‘Paper abortions’ would, in general, make the situation even worse for women. Some would be forced to have abortions against their will or better judgment because they can’t afford to raise a kid alone.”

This is actually not against their will. This is them using their brain and making a rational decision. Forcing them to get an abortion against their will is akin to throwing them down the stairs. Something men would be infinitely less likely to do if the responsibilities of fatherhood could just be signed away.

"LEGAL PATERNAL SURRENDER"

not "financial abortion," not "paper abortion," stop trying to suggest that legal paternal surrender is the male equivalent to abortion. Every time MRAs do that it's just shooting ourselves in the foot.

[–]Gruntyth 17 points18 points19 points 4 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

It is equivalent with the right to abort as both men and women would choose fatherhood during pregnancy. You are the one that is shooting yourself in the foot. If you claim that "paternal surrender" is not equivalent to the right to abort or in other words choose fatherhood then there can't be double standards

[–]TrilIias 12 points13 points14 points 4 years ago* (10 children) | Copy Link

Do you know what the equivalent to legal paternal surrender for men is? Legal maternal (edit) surrender for women. Women can already opt out of parenthood once the child is born thanks to safe haven laws, but men are on the hook financially if the mother decides to keep the child.

There is no male equivalent to abortion. There is no medical procedure men can undergo which kills the child.

Equating legal paternal surrender to abortion is A. a false equivalency, and B. detrimental to your argument, because once Roe is overturned and abortion is illegal, what are you going to say? Men should be allowed to have a right equivalent to a right that women do not have anymore? How do you plan on convincing anyone of that?

Once abortion is outlawed in some states, women will still have safe haven laws. They will still be able to relinquish financial responsibilities to their children, while men will not. If you want to convince people that MRAs are interested in this as a matter of equality, it would be wise to not equate legal paternal surrender with a "right" that is on its way out.

[–]Oncefa2 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In the leaked decision, safe haven laws for women were cited as a factor by the supreme court justices.

Americans who believe that abortion should be restricted press countervailing arguments about modern developments. They note that attitudes about the pregnancy of unmarried women have changed drastically; that federal and state laws ban discrimination on the basis of pregnancy, that leave for pregnancy andchildbirth are now guaranteed by law in many cases, that the costsof medical care asso- ciated with pregnancy are covered by insurance or govern- ment assistance; that States have increasingly adopted“ safe haven laws, which generally allow women to drop off babies anonymously; and that awoman who puts her new- born up for adoption today has little reason to fear that the baby will not find a suitable home. They also claim many that people now have a new appreciation of fetal life and that when prospective parents who want to have a child view a sonogram, they typically have no doubt that what they see is their daughter or son.

They actually spend a great deal of time affirming that women have equal or greater rights to men, and went so far as to suggest that if women wanted to, they could vote for abortion laws because they make up more than 55% of the voting electorate.

Our decision returns the issueof abortion to those legislative bodies, and it allows women on both sidesof the abor- tion issue to seek to affect the legislative process by influ- encing public opinion, lobbying legislators, voting, and running for office. Women are not without electoral or po- litical power. It is noteworthy that the percentage of women who register to vote and cast ballots is consistently higher than the percentage of men who do so. In the last election in November 2020, women, who make up around 51.5% of the population of Mississippi, constituted 55.5% of the voters who cast ballots."

[–]Gruntyth 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

If you see my comment i marked in bold "the right to abort" not the the actual medical procedure, of course the procedures are not the equivalents but the right to "choose what to do with my body" and "choose fatherhood" during pregnancy is.

Of couse it would not be completly equivalent as the woman would be able to kill a child that also would "belong" to the man too. but the part that "interests us", which is choosing fatherhood during pregnancy, would be.

Like i said by trying to equate "paternal surrender" with safe havens, you are justifiying double standards. Because if i wantes to oppose men having the same rights, I could claim that men doesn't need to have "paper abortion/paternal surrender" because like you admited it have nothing to do with abortion rights, and because men can already use safe heavens too so there is no need for a right to make it equal when it is alreadu equal

[–]Oncefa2 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Men very often cannot use safe haven laws and the recent leak from the supreme court even acknowledges this as a counter argument to the idea that abortion has anything to do with gender equality.

[–]TrilIias -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

"choose what to do with my body" and "choose fatherhood"

You really think those are equivalent? You really think choosing what to do with your body and parenthood are equivalent?

Of couse it would not be completly equivalent as the woman would be able to kill a child that also would "belong" to the man too. but the part that "interests us", which is choosing fatherhood during pregnancy, would be.

I agree. Way to make my case for me.

"paternal surrender" with safe havens, you are justifiying double standards

Literally how? As Oncefa2 pointed out, men don't have the same rights under safe haven laws.

[–]Gruntyth 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You really think those are equivalent? You really think choosing what to do with your body and parenthood are equivalent?

Yes, like i said choosing fatherhood during pregnancy like the woman does would be an equivalent to male abortion as both are choosing fatherhood in case of accidental pregnanc.

I agree. Way to make my case for me

The fact that is not 100% the same. Doesn't mean that both parties being able to choose fatherhood during pregnancy is not equivalent, that is what im advocating for and what the right to "abort" allows you to do.

Literally how? As Oncefa2 pointed out, men don't have the same rights under safe haven laws.

Ok let's see, if "paternal surrender" have nothing to do with abortion, and is equal to safe havens. Then that means, that if safe havens are suddenly banned, then men shouldn't be able to have to have the right to choose fatherhood as men and women would already have the same rights.

Thats the problem with this, men not having the same choice to choose fatherhood is a sexist double standards regardless of the existence or bureaucracy of safe havens

And another problem is that men "technically" have the same rights to acces safe havens. And as far as im aware, "technically" you need the consent of the other parent (as they can sue you) unless you are a "single mother"

Sp safe havens are just an anonymous adoption. So how does safe havens legitimate the existance of "paternal surrender"? it would only legitimate a right to paternal surrender, as long as the woman agrees to it.

[–]TrilIias 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ok let's see, if "paternal surrender" have nothing to do with abortion, and is equal to safe havens. Then that means, that if safe havens are suddenly banned, then men shouldn't be able to have to have the right to choose fatherhood as men and women would already have the same rights.

You're close to getting it, because that's the exact argument I made except with abortion instead of safe haven laws. The thing is, the Supreme Court has voted to repeal Roe which will mean abortion is banned in about half the states, whereas no one has expressed any interest in repealing safe haven laws. Repealing safe haven laws isn't a uniting political issue.

And another problem is that men "technically" have the same rights to acces safe havens. And as far as im aware, "technically" you need the consent of the other parent (as they can sue you) unless you are a "single mother"

"Technically," but in practice? If men could opt out of their parental responsibilities, than MRAs should stop complaining about child support. If women are always required to get the father's permission to make use of safe haven laws then again, MRAs should stop arguing that women have more rights than men in this area. But we here all know how it actually works in the real world. Women are often able to surrender their children despite the father's wishes, causing him to lose access to his child. If a man ever tried to do that he would be arrested for kidnapping.

Sp safe havens are just an anonymous adoption. So how does safe havens legitimate the existance of "paternal surrender"? it would only legitimate a right to paternal surrender, as long as the woman agrees to it.

If pushing for legal paternal surrender also involves expanding legal maternal surrender, then that's just a win-win.

having to work to produce an income to pay court ordered child support?

[–]TrilIias 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm not saying either are in any way insignificant, and if I had to chose I know I'd rather be pregnant for 9 months rather than spend 18 years paying child support. I'm just arguing that they aren't the same.

[–]shit-zen-giggles 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The author actually wrote this mental pretzel of a sentence, "One is a medical procedure that takes part in a woman’s body, and means there is never a child. It is a gesture that comes with a fraught history and political context. The other is a signature on a piece of paper. It doesn’t do away with parenthood itself, it just allows a man to free himself from financial obligation, allowing him to opt-out of his responsibilities towards a woman and child who already exists." Schrödinger's child?

[–]gamerlololdude 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

it’s important for abortion to be easily accessible to women for men to be able to have financial abortion.

Otherwise you can get the case where neither of the couple wanted a child but it happens by accident and now they can’t abort. neither the woman nor the man.

In cases where the mother 100% chose to have the baby but father did not, then yes it would be fair for the father to have the right to not pay child support.

But if the mother did not choose to have the baby, father choosing to abort financially would be an unfair transaction. It’s putting the burden on the mother to birth and raise.

though if you think about it, women should have the right to financial abortion too. Just all humans. Leave the child with the father and claim that don’t want to pay for it. Since say the father was the one who wanted the child but not the mother.

[–]LoneShark81 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It’s putting the burden on the mother to birth and raise.

wouldnt that be fair if she is the only one that wants it though?

[–]gamerlololdude 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If she wants to raise it and father doesn’t then burden is on her, yes.

But, it’s very important that she needs to have the right to not birth it in the first place if doesn’t want to.

If she doesn’t want to birth it but due to abortion being banned she now has to birth and raise it, it is fair for the father to carry the burden of raising the child as well just like her.

[–]rich_before_30 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

They have the right leave it at fire station. Doesn't that do it?

[–]gamerlololdude 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

lol I don’t think that’s how giving up a child for adoption works. quite a sad way to treat a human tbh. But yes, parents can give up a child for adoption.

[–]alclarkey 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well since access to traditional abortion is no longer guaranteed for women, I no longer support financial abortion. You squirted the kid into her belly, don't make the rest of us pay for it.

[+]Waterdrinker420h20 -17 points-16 points-15 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I don't like the tone of men's rights because it seems to aim ultimately at an even more decayed and libertine society. I don't want to live among an entire country of deadbeats and baby killers and our generations will deal with the consequences of being raised (or not) by such pieces of shit. I'm sure giving up your kids for adoption will stop being shamed next.

[–]Grow_peace_in_Bedlam 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

On the contrary, I think that legal paternal surrender would encourage more intact and functional families, as both parties in a sexual and sentimental relationship would be on a level playing field, with neither being able to use the other as a meal ticket, so both men and women would think more carefully about the character and dependability of the people they have sex with.

[–]Deadicate 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

It's always the tone that you people have an issue with. Somehow that makes the entire argument pointless.

Men being given the option to abort will result in less, not more children being born into shit environments.

Men being able to financially abort will also lead to less situations where the man doesn't want a kid, but the woman decides to carry it anyway.

[–]Waterdrinker420h20 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I am against "progress" and equality, so it's more than the tone I'm against. More like the frame or the morality I guess. Giving men the equal opportunity to do evil does not improve the situation, but stopping women from doing evil does, so my solution to this problem would be banning abortion, which is apparently on the table again.

[–]NutsLikeMelons 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Saying you are against equality is an interesting position if you want anyone to agree with you from either side.

[–]hamakx 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Straight up bizarre. Being against progress and equality? Like imagine saying that out loud to people. He has to be trying to troll

[–]Drizznarte 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

On the plus side, mens rights would incentivise children to have two parents because both would know the concequences and use that information to change the way they think about relationships and sex.

[+]JosephsonAdam -18 points-17 points-16 points 4 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

Up until recently, I leaned against the male right to a paper abortion out of a concern for how it could be abused. Having given it more thought, I suppose it could be a good idea under certain conditions to make abuse more difficult.

I present the following as a hypothetical model.

Here in Canada, I can legally consent to sex starting at the age of sixteen and, biologically, most boys can impregnate a woman once they reach the age of twelve.

Add to that that female sexual abuse of boys and men is far more common than is generally acknowledged:

https://www.apa.org/news/press/releases/2014/03/coerced-sex

So imagine a Right-to-Self-Exclusion Act that would allow me to apply for a free passport starting at the age of fifteen along with access to a free online passport account.

Starting at the age of fifteen, I could sign into my passport account to self-exclude, for five years autorenewable, from the freedom to give my consent to fornication under threat of a heavy fine that doubles for each repetition of the offence. I'd be locked in to the five-year self-exclusion period but could opt out of the autorenew at any time.

However, the Right-to-Self-Exclusion Act would grant the following benefits to any man who chooses to self-exclude:

The freedom to obtain a paper abortion.

Making it an offence, punishable by a heavy fine that doubles for each repetition of the offense, for any person to encourage, beyond merely giving her enthusiastic consent to, a self-excluded man to give his consent to fornication, as that would constitute incitement to commit a self-exclusion offense.

If a woman want to encourage, beyond merely giving her enthusiastic consent to, a man to give his consent to fornication, the onus would be on her to confirm his status. He could confirm his status to her by simply signing into his online passport account to send her an official email confirming his status.

Protection from rape-shield laws and a right to an inquisitorial hearing on request.

Since it would be linked to his passport, he might even enjoy this right abroad too depending on international agreements.

Since incitement to commit a self-exclusion offense would be much easier to prove than sexual assault, it would therefore provide a more effective deterrent against it. While the above would grant a man a right to a paper abortion, it would also provide more effective deterrents against him raping a woman and against a woman sexually assaulting him.

You again with this oppressive solution argument...

[+]JosephsonAdam -11 points-10 points-9 points 4 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

There exist fundamental differences between a women's access to an abortion and a man's right to a paper abortion:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/world/2021/nov/06/poles-march-against-abortion-ban-after-pregnant-womans-death

You seem to treat them as completely equal issues.

Male and female physiology are different, and so the law must reflect that. Equality is not the same as sameness.

[–]Sininenn 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I am not having this conversation with you again. I already explained all my points to you the last time we did this.

[–]JosephsonAdam -4 points-3 points-2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Fair enough.

[–]Gruntyth 13 points14 points15 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There exist fundamental differences between a women's access to an abortion and a man's right to a paper abortion:

If the risk of death is gonna be the excuse, then abortion should only be allowedto women that risk that during pregnancy.

And the same argument could be applied to men, being forced to work more hours in a dangerous job, being sent to prison for not being able to pay, go homeless etc. Risks my life, health, shortens life span etc.

You seem to treat them as completely equal issues.

Male and female physiology are different, and so the law must reflect that. Equality is not the same as sameness

They are equal issues. Physiology doesn't prevent men to have the same right to not be forced into fatherhood.

The best arguments to support abortion rights do so in a gender neutral manner that also apply to men who don't want to become fathers.

One of the flaws of Roe v Wade is that it was unconstitutionally gendered.

A non gendered version that gave men equal rights would have stood up better. And the leaked supreme court decision even implies this several times.

Interesting. So what would you think of a law that gave both men and women the choice between the right to fornicate and the right to a medically unnecessary abortion or paper abortion, with each person being free to choose between the two?

I have no idea what those words mean and I imagine this is a stupid / leading question anyway.

If you're pro life then just agree to disagree. Don't beat around the bush like that. It doesn't look good.

I accept that human life starts at conception, yet I still lean mostly pro-choice for medical reasons to avoid things like this:

As a result, I tend to favour granting women a right to an abortion but hesitate to grant the same to men without some assurance that they couldn't abuse that right too freely.

to men without some assurance that they couldn't abuse that right too freely.

how would a man abuse that right anymore than a woman could abuse the right to have an abortion?

I grant that a woman can absolutely abuse it. For example, should a woman who sexually assaults or otherwise coerced a man into sex have a right to an abortion?

One solution could be for the law to force women to make a choice between excessive sexual freedoms or a freedom to abort.

If we have a societal need to address an issue, and can't justify forcing individuals to pay, have the government subsidize it. This is why the government exists. This is not rocket science.

The same women that are getting complete welfare free rides plus child support and untaxed earning ability up to the poverty level, with the child support and welfare not being counted as income?

Like Kevin Samuels once said on one of his YouTube lives. If men had the chance to financially drop out of supporting a child he does not want women will stop getting pregnant to try and trap a man financially.
