It is so crazy to think that in the distant (and not to distant) past, that bachelor taxes existed. From Ancient Rome, where they first originated, single men had their rights stripped if they refused to marry after a certain age. This included attending social functions and inheriting property. Eventually, this tax was enacted because the Roman population at the time had some low birth rates. This tax was eventually done away with, but it wouldn't be the last.

From the Marriage Duty Act of the 1600's to even states like Missouri and Montana trying to tax bachelors at the beginning of the 20th century, this, to me, is just as bad as taking away the benefits that single mothers benefit from. A total hypocrisy, if you will, in some aspects, against men who do no harm and contribute hard to society.

The ever-hated Mussolini even tried to enact a bachelor tax that lasted for a few years before World War 2, up until 1943.

So, my question to the gents on here is this. Given these crazy times we live in, how likely is it that this draconian tactic might try and make a comeback? What are your thoughts about this in regards to men's rights and how does it infringe upon ourselves as individuals? Would there be any way worried politicians would force this on any free male in the near future?

I personally feel that men today would rebel even further, seeing as how we built this world we live in with blood, sweat and tears. Something like a modern bachelor tax could even make society head towards further downfall. I even had read an opinion that something like this is what caused the fall of the Roman Empire.
