NOTE: I AM NOT AIMING TO START A FLAME WAR. I'm genuinely interested in discussing this with some of the intelligent folks here who might have a different viewpoint than I do.

This study from Princeton University finds demonstrable evidence of sexism against women in the workplace, and, for me at least, shoots a hole in the "we should hire based on qualifications" argument, because it's clear that people don't actually do that. You'll notice that it's not just men who exhibit gender bias, but women as well, which the researchers believe indicate that the bias was NOT intentional or malicious, but rather institutional.

If anyone knows of some similar studies focusing on gender bias against men in the workplace, I'd really like to see them.

When discussing the lack of women in the science fields, it could be true that a contributing factor is just that there aren't enough qualified women. On the other hand, though, this study indicates that there may actually be some legitimate gender bias in the hiring processes.
