So, Vice wrote up a touchy feely article about dating people with BPD. Their goal is clearly to paint a tragic yet sympathetic picture of a "misunderstood" mental disorder.

The big problem from an MRA stance is the piece misleads people into thinking it's doable, okay even, to DATE people with this disorder, as though it's something less serious and life-ruining for boyfriends and husbands than it is, like as though BPD were an eating disorder or depression. There's also the subtle suggestion that YOU are an insensitive asshole if you WON'T date a borderline. But we've heard before that guys are assholes if they won't date fat women, trans women, feminist women, etc.

Meanwhile the NIMH calls BPD a "serious mental illness" with problems including "extreme reactions," "rage," "distorted or unstable self-image," "dangerous behaviors," "problems controlling anger," and "self-harming behaviors."

As many guys here have already learned the hard way: you do NOT date a person with these symptoms even for a short time without putting yourself in serious danger of a violent outburst, emotional harm, financial problems, or false legal accusations.

Vice's article seems to fall back to the societal/feminist idea that men should sacrifice and take on the responsibility (man up) to take care of women — even seriously mentally ill women.

Just to bring it home, some choice quotes from a comment thread from the Facebook post on the article, including the one in the title.

Guy1 makes a fairly even-handed remark:

Guy1: I can sum it up without reading the article: The sex is incredible but everything else is hell.

Leads to a flurry of BPD backlash.

Girl1: Don't you think about what you're writing online? Don't you think about the people with BPD who already have issues with self-esteem and promiscuity who read your comment reaffirming that they are good for nothing but sex? Did you know most of us were abused [there's the exaggeration and distortion of reality] and have had that idea in our heads since we were children anyway? I'm sorry you had the displeasure of being with someone with BPD, but maybe you should try living it. You've had a walk in the park.

Clearly the wymyn are the real victims, not the men whose lives they destroy. But wait!

Guy2: As someone who suffered at the hands of a person with BPD, go seek help [Girl1]. We will not be silenced and we will inform others about our experience in hopes they don't suffer the same.

Girl2: You guys are all insensitive ass fucks if you think you're being funny towards [Girl1]. Grow up lol seriously.

Girl1: Look, I get that we can be abusive, I get that we can be a fucking nightmare, but honestly we're the victims here, we're the ones with a chronic mental health disorder. We have an illness. You're being cruel to people with a fucking illness, who are sick, [that's a fair point, but notice how she then turns it around to say people owe it to her to put up with her symptoms: classic BPD] they can't control their symptoms without help and definitely not if they're with someone like you who doesn't fucking get that. It's ridiculous. You had an experience with ONE person. Someone with depression used to beat the shit out of me, depressed people are fucking psychos and you should never date one. See how stupid that sounds? That's what you sound like. You're all a bunch of stupid fucks. Oh and triggered? Get back to 2014 you utter fucking troglodyte. [instantly replies to her own reply] And just to set the record straight: if you've genuinely been in an abusive relationship with someone who has BPD, I have endless love for you. I'm sorry that happened to you. But if you're gonna use your anger to further spread stigma against the ones who are genuinely suffering with this disorder, I have no respect for you whatsoever, regardless of your experiences. If you don't wanna be in destructive relationships with borderlines, maybe try and do something to help people with it function right instead of being a whiney little fuckhead on the internet

So if you've had a bad experience with a BPD person you have her sympathy, unless you have a negative opinion about that experience then she has no respect whatsoever for you. Got it.

Guy3: I can personally confirm the fact that dating a BPD will ruin your life. Sex was great but that broad turned my shit upside down.

Girl2: [Guy3] I hope the unlucky fuck who dates you next realizes that you're a piece of shit before they develop feelings for you because then that would ruin her life. Yikes.

Always the guy's fault, isn't it.

TL;DR: Now that more men are starting to catch on to the types of women they should stay away from, it looks like feminist media are going to start pushing "neuroatypical" [i.e., severely mentally ill] women as the next group men are oppressing by rejecting them. Usage of all the familiar arguments: victimhood, time for men to man up, denigration of men who won't comply, ad hominem attacks, male insensitivity, etc.

That title comment just so perfectly encapsulated how this happens I just had to make a post about it.

Edit: Screwed up last quote. Was directed to guy3 not guy2.
