you shouldn’t, the majority of things that happened to women also happened to men and are not gendered issues despite the aggressive narrative that has been pushed over the past 30 years. for example the vote the majority of men couldn’t vote in the UK until 1919 but had to take part in a national service system to get that vote until the age of 35 after which they could vote with out the national service. women however could also vote at 35 as they couldn’t do national service something that changed in 1929 when women could vote at 21 still without compulsory national service..

unpopular opinion but when you look into these things it just turns out that regardless of gender you were getting the shaft one way or another.

One could read into that question in different ways, but one thing that comes to mind is that feminists like to blame all men for the actions of a minority. It’s guilt by association. Don’t buy into this. When men apologize for the actions of other men, they are in essence buying into guilt by association. I am responsible for my actions, I am not responsible for the actions of others just because they happen to be the same sex as me. Since I’m not responsible for their actions, I have nothing to apologize for.

Hitler had brown hair. Should everyone with brown hair therefore apologize for his actions? Same thing.

It’s guilt by association, that’s what it is. Ethnic minorities are doing the same with whites in regards to slavery and slaughter of indigenous tribes in the Americas and Africa. Women are statistically more likely to murder their own children than men, should we make women as a whole apologize for our child murder rates? Also, what about the surge in hate crimes against the Asian community from the black community? Should blacks have to apologize for that too? It’s foolishness, that’s what it is. Whatever you do, don’t give in.

No we should not apologize. You should never apologize for anything that you did not do. The women who demand these apologies are very toxic people. It took me a while to learn that one but most women who have an axe to grind with men are actually very toxic people themselves.

Absolutely not!
The moment you accept collective guilt for the things men did to women in the past is the moment you NOW become responsible for everything happening to women today.
And they will not let you forget it or deny it.

Save yourself the frustration and refuse to accept collective guilt.
Tell any woman who says that you should feel guilty for the actions of men from 100+ years ago is asinine and morally bankrupt.

Or ask them: "If men, collectively are responsible for ALL of the bad things men have done to women in the past, then does that mean that women are all responsible for all of the bad things women have done in the past?"

I'm sure the answer will be "Women were the oppressed class so they can't be held responsible for standing up to their oppressors" or something like that.. but the point is.. if they can't understand that holding an entire gender responsible for things that individual members of that gender have never and would never do is completely asinine.

TL;DR: Don't do it.. they are just wanting you to accept collective guilt so they can walk all over you like a doormat.

If someone asking you to apologize for something that they didn't suffer, or something you didn't have a part of,it's for power. If you go along with it you are giving them power over you, and allowing them to guilt you for something you had nothing to do with. If someone asked me, I'd tell them to apologize for everything I've went through. Have them apologize because they had a father, grandfather and so on. it's just as much their fault as yours

You shouldn't. Collective guilt is a chimera used to manipulate people into doing what others want.

And as far as I can see, it never did anything good nor to those who let themself feel it,neither to the ones,who were harmed in past.

Past things are past things. Acknowledge, forgive,forget, live along. Unless somebody tries to harm you, basing on the past. But this is absolutely different story.

I never quite understood the idea of collective guilt myself, but I have to admit, that I hail from quite different culture than USA. In Europe we did a lot of nasty things to each other - wars, conquests,religious presecutions, religious wars, genocides, eugenics, breeding programs, pogroms, you name it.

But still we live on somehow. My ancestors for example, being noblemen of a military background, often treated jews like shit within our domain. In the same time there were a lot of jewish (in Europe jew means nationality, rather than religious confession) merchants, bankiers, and estate (like literall medevial estates with workers and servants) managers,who took each and every coin from both their noble masters and common folk. As a revenge for the whole "pariah" status and religious presecution.

And what do you think? My best friend in university was a jewish guy from alike age-old family who knows history wery well. And, in theory, should hate me, based on collective past. As you may guess, we both did not gave two fucks about what our ancestors would think about such friendship.

And nobody of us ever felt any shame for the past, that we both did not choose.

I will never apologize for things, I didn't do. People who are saying this wants to be happy and are willing to see you trumble and that's bad. I live my life and distance myself from woman. I have only contact with males, my mother and sisters and some female friends, nothing more nothing less.

I don't help or protect females either because distance means everything from respect to protection.

So why should I, apologize for things, I will never do or did?

I agree that we don't need to take responsibility for things that happened before we were born. I would estimate that 70% of the boys and men I've met in my life have said or done something sexist to me. 100% of those men didn't acknowledge that they had been sexist, nor apologize to me, when I tried to point it out. We don't need to apologize for things we didn't do, but I've noticed men have a hard time admitting to women when they've made a sexist mistake, even when they definitely did it because it just happened. And certainly, this is true of women in the reverse. I think it's worth noting that it's hard for men or women to feel safe admitting they were sexist and made a mistake when our culture right now is to dismiss people completely after one mistake, often even after they've apologized, and this is an issue affecting men and women.

Genuinely asking, has anyone told you that you had to “apologise”? Of course thats unreasonable, and I cant imagine a logical person actually expecting that from you. But perhaps you misinterpreted? People (being feminists or women or whoever youre referring to) I think just want men to acknowledge the past and certain privileges you have in society as a man. Being aware of the past is important in understanding the feelings of others and the connotations you might not even be aware of
