This Eschatology person is just repeatedly "trolling" r/MR. How? By abusing the rules we have that promote free speech to post things that are not true, but which may possibly be true.

The whole tactic plays on people's kindness and willingness to be supportive of another person who appears to be in distress. The only way that it is successful, then, is if it affects us - if we change our "society", our rules, simply to fight against this.

So what if a fake story is posted? Do you really suddenly feel different about your response to the story simply because you found out it is fake?

People have been selectively choosing comments to make r/MR look a certain way for a very long time. That is what Manboobz does, that is what SRS did before their moratorium, that is what AgainstMensRights does, that is what r/Feminisms did in the past... This isn't anything new. The only real "trolling" success that occurs is when people suddenly feel differently upon learning that the story is fake.

If we give in to the trolling and change, then the trolling wins - plain and simply.

(I think the analogy is apt to show the similarities in the WTC bombing. The terrorists won when the US changed their foreign policy and spent so much money on wars and faux-security features that it has caused long term damage to their economy. The US changed their policy in response to the attack, and has really changed the entire political climate. If we give in, we are doing the same - we lose a piece of what makes this subreddit special when we advocate for change in response to a perceived threat.)
