I find it interesting that the OP decided to relate this TED talk to marriage. While it applies to that situation, i think that the overarching theme of the entire talk is about how the lack of dedication to ANY decision leads us to unhappieness. It doesn't matter what the decision is (literally any situation that requires an individual to pick a preference can be inserted), what matters is the realization that WE make ourselves unhappy through the constant re-examination of our choices. Hell of a talk. Upboat for you sir.

While I am anti marriage, I believe in personal liberty and freedom. Therefore I support divorce as a choice - the right to decide whether or not to be married.

Also let’s remember there are many abused spouses out there, male and female, who suffer inside the marriage and outside, (stigma etc). It would be a great disservice to these people to tell them that they have to stay with a person who is abusive.

A less extreme example would be a loveless marriage, sometimes the love just fades, what happens when you find someone you do love, are you stuck resenting each other in the loveless marriage and cheating on one another?

Freedoms are important, I want to be free, choice makes me worry sometimes- did I make the right one, am I making a mistake... However I would not sacrifice that choice for happiness, wealth, love or any other.

As a man, my choosing to remain unmarried has noting to do with the amount of options I have. It has everything to do with being raked over the coals and dragged thru the mud by a scorned woman, a scumbag attorney, and a judge who favors the woman. When I was 25, I got a vasectomy because i don't want kids. I've spent too many years of my life becoming an educated, productive person with a good life and great pay. It will be a cold day in atheist hell before some devil woman comes along and tries to take what I've rightfully earned. Play it smart, take control of your own life.

I'm currently taking a social psychology course where this phenomenon was being discussed. There are many factors in play here but mainly excessive choice causes decreased satisfaction and depression. Many studies have been done on this : Inglehart and Well 2005. Christopher Hsee and Reid Haste 2006. Lyenagar and Pepper 2000. Basically excessive choice will lead to second guessing ones personal decision and feelings of "what if." But can someone please explain why this is in Mens Rights anyway? The first commentor under the original article summed it up pretty well.

These are not novel results. Behavioral economists and happiness researchers have known for years that choice tends to produce regret and remorse. If you make a decision, pretend that it's final and there's no going back, you will be happier.
